Which degree path is best for home health?

Published

I worked as a CNA in home health for 2 years and I loved it! I started out in LTC and only lasted a month, it was just too depressing for me. I also worked as a CNA in med-surg at a local hospital and hated that as well. WAY too stressful and terrifying. So my point here is I really want to go to nursing school but I am not interested in bed-side hospital setting nursing. I have a passion for the elderly and want to focus on home health independent living. Will going to school for my ADN be a waste of my time since I am not interested in the hospital? Should I go with a 1 year LVN/LPN program for now?

I would do the ADN. I plan on doing home health because of the flexibility and being your own boss and making your own money. Yes, you can do that as an LPN, but you can make more money as an RN by doing SOC. good luck

Specializes in CVICU.

I would just go straight for your RN. Keep in mind you will have to do LTC/hospital clinicals regardless of which one you choose.

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

I agree, go for your ADN. You'll make more than an LVN, and over the coming years, ADNs will be less common in hospital/acute settings. It'll also open you up to more clientele.
