Which AP Class?

Hello,

My school allready has the fall schedule out April 30 I will be signing up for classes. We have two AP at my school one with cadavers and one without. :uhoh21: I would like to take the AP without the dead people but hey if it helps me learn then I am willing to deal with cadevers. What do you think?

Hi mydee,

I would love to have been able to take an A&P class with cadavers!! Call me weird and morbid, but I think that would have been so cool! At my CC, we only had a few cats to look at and didn't get to dissect anything other than a bovine eyeball. I missed out on dissecting in HS also. Anytime you can get a "hands on" class, I would certainly go for it!! Good luck in whichever you choose~

Dead people weird me out too, but I think I would learn a lot more having a body to see everything we're learning about in. KWIM? But yeah, way up on the gross-o-meter.

loved the cadavers so happy I got that oppurtunity really makes things more real, and as a nurse you will have to deal with sick and/or dead people all the time, might as well get used to it now.

as a nurse there is a good chance you will come across dead people quite often.

I didn't feel weird at all I felt sad at first but then I moved on, its wonderful to have that option we can take our cadaver out anytime and study him its a fantastic tool and really helps you get the "real" picture of things.

not me,

get yourself an anatomy coloring book instead- the fat and goo makes stuff harder to see, not easier, and the smell,, I swear those chemicals are a danger to any living thing..

Take the cadaver. Wish I could have had that option. A&P is the basis for nursing and will make everything fall into place in the future.

I HATE that my current school doesn't have cadavers. We don't even have cats. Our labs are only online, and we never get to even look at a model. At my old school, flooded by Katrina, we had cadavers. It was 2 groups of five per, but at least we got to find everything on a real person. I figured I'd rather practice on a dead person before they give me a live one someday....

I am with you MMW!

I would love to have worked on cadavers, at least to get some feel for what I am fixing to start doing in nursing!!! At least we did have cats, old and falling apart that they were, but that was it. It amazes me how different each school is in their programs!

If you are planning to do med-surg, I think the cadavers would be a great idea, but I don't really think it's necessary...many schools don't have them because those types of labs are very expensive...and they turn out excellent nurses!

It's a personal choice, but I think you can learn just as much in either one.
