ANSWER with rationale
A. correct--prevents crystalluria and stone formation
B. sun sensitivity not seen with this medication
C. no dietary restrictions with medication
D if given with meals, it delays but doesn't interfere with amount of medication absorbed
"Caution patient to use sunscreen and protective clothing to prevent photosensitivity reactions." This is what Davis's Drug guide says when I look up this medication. Mind you it does list crystalluria as a side effect but does not specify to teach the patient to drink plenty of water while it does say specifically that it is important to teach patient to wear sunscreen/avoid the sun. Is the NCLEX going to give me questions like this? Grrrr.
Sorry for the rant. I feel better now :)
All of you are better than I! Guess I need to remember to avoid thinking of personal instances and enter the NCLEX hospital LOL b/c my med bottle has a bright orange sticker on it from the pharmacy that says to avoid the sun and that is the first thing I thought of.
I would go with plenty of fluids. Of course food is right too but I guess I think I saw more answers indicating fluids for sulfa meds.

Yes. To the NCLEX hospital. The only way to look at these questions and just know is to actually answer lots of them and soon you begin to see what they want. I think the reason behind fluids is that the lack of it can lead to more serious complications. Remember to always pick the answer that causes the most harm, irreversible damage, serious consequences and so forth, even if they sound wrong. The food and sunlight are the trap, they sound right.
I sure picked sunscreen because I thought sulfa drugs had photosensitivity issues...but I guess I can see why the crystal formation would be a "more" serious side effect. I mean go ahead and burn your face off in the sun...but PLEASE don't get a kidney stone.
P.S.----if you just scroll down this list to the S drugs, it seems sulfa drugs are present
