I feel same way. I'm getting ready to take the NCLEX-RN . I have a dilemma I don't know where to start. Should I start working in Florida or New York ?. Should I start ER or Med/Surg? I have a lot to figure out.
From what I have heard from experienced nurses....it's best to start on a Med/Surg-type floor. This is where you will be able to hone all of the skills you learned in school. This will also give you the opportunity to master time-management skills. The advanced practice nurses and managers that I know feel that a Med/Surg nurse can handle anything that is thrown at them.
As I said before, I am going to be working on a Step-down unit, but there are also a lot of Med/Surg rooms on my unit. This will be very challenging, but on eof my initial goals as a new nurse is to practice everything I have learned!
Best of luck to you!

Let's keep our eyes on the ball! We are all worried about passing NCLEX. In reality, the majority of people pass on their first try. The average number of questions that people answer is 110! (I just took an ATI review course through my school and we went over all of this!)
Let's talk about where we will be a few months from now....
I took a job on a stroke step-down unit. I'm so excited to start! There is a new unit director and she is really motivated about getting the unit to mesh well. BUT...I'm also really nervous to start. I feel like a little fish in a big pond again!
