That a hospital job could be gotten easily. Places that are undesirable to live/small town/big town, whatever. Clean lic/no convictions. I'm over 45 and have no hospital exp. All replies appreciated. Thanks! :)

I live in North Dakota, nurses are needed here badly but that means we're short staffed. Large sign on bonus but you will need to contract with the hospital system for 2-5 yrs. CEU requirements are not bad 14 hr per 2 yrs. Lots of specialties open. Weather is a big factor if you don't tolerate really cold don't come it can be brutal

Don't get me wrong...not all oil-rich states have slumping economic situations. For instance, Texas and Oklahoma are weathering the storm nicely due to their well-diversified economies.

However, other places are suffering. Some cities in ND are hurting, and the oil-rich state of Alaska will start making residents pay state income taxes for the first time ever. Prior to this, the state had been riding off the coffers generated by oil money.

Syracuse, NY. Upstate Medical, Level one Trauma Center, St. Joseph's, Crouse Irving. Lots of RN positions. Not out in the boondocks at all. I know that we have many nursing programs in our area, RN grads are all usually hired as soon as they graduate. Check it out.

I lived in Utica, NY a year ago. An hour from Syracuse. Applied to St Joseph's and they never called me. Moved to Houston TX and got a job in a psych floor. Not my 1st Choice but the pay is good.

Omaha, Nebraska!

Specializes in ICU.

I relocated to New Mexico for a job. Prior to being hired for the job, I received two other calls from facilities in the state. I had no medical experience. I am now in West Texas and got a job pretty easily (probably due to my experience as well.) But, West TX seems new grad friendly, too.

I still do prefer NM over TX. It doesn't have as much to do but the weather was so lovely. I will be back there fulltime again someday!

You might also try ND. I received a call from a hospital there when looking for a job. I am glad I decided to go with NM than ND. It is a bit cheaper to live there and better weather.

Specializes in Dialysis.
Not here. Hiring whether ASN or BSN. Where I am doing clinicals, it's not uncommon to find LPNs as the floor nurses. I just attended a job fair in November at a major Indy hospital hiring new grads. ASN not an issue. I actually think I landed a PCT job that may turn into a RN job when I pass NCLEX. But that also has to do with not many BSN schools that produce new grads. Maybe Louisville has more??

All the schools except ivy tech are BSN

Specializes in Psych,LTC,.

there's a problem with the dakotas to look into. the boom areas there is literally no housing. they pay a lot, but IF you can find housing, it'll eat up all that money. BTW skip NJ altogether. I see ads for alaska.

Specializes in Psych,LTC,.

is that for new grads, or in general?

Specializes in Med/Surg, OR, Peds, Patient Education.
There's no shortage of nurses here, the problem is hospitals and facilities don't want to hire ENOUGH nurses.

Therefore, many places have multiple openings, but a good percentage of the staff bolts as soon as they can.

Nearly every state or city in the US could hire sufficient numbers of nurses, if they chose to do so. However, as the number of administrators increase, the salaries paid to these administrators is so high that there leaves very few dollars to pay for the number of nurses that are truly needed. If you add to the amount paid to administration, the dollars spent on the constant addition of unneeded cosmetic "improvements," you can see why most hospitals are short staffed.

When new graduates are hired, many leave quickly as there are simply not enough experienced RNs to mentor them for the length of time needed to "get them up to speed." Many new grads become frustrated and overwhelmed, unless they were LPNs or ADNs prior to obtaining their BSNs.

I appreciate everyone's replies... I've been Googling places all night :)

Rapid City Regional Hospital in SD. PM me for more info please.

East Tennessee/SW Virginia not too bad, BUT stay away from Wellmont in Kingsport TN and Johnson City Medical Center, TN. They treat their staff people really badly and tend to play them against a large number of travelers. Bristol Memorial, on the other hand, is a great place, as are some of the hospitals in more rural towns.

Specializes in ED, Psych, Burns, ICU.

Rural communities. Grants Pass, Oregon is offering $4K sign on bonus in all areas. Salary range $32-37 to start. Great area with amazing outdoor recreation. Let me know if you want more info. [email protected]
