Where are the RN/LVN jobs?

U.S.A. California

Hi Everyone I am a nurse license in CA. Graduated 2010 and pass the NCLEX the same year. No job for 9 months now.. I applied to every post in Craigslist.com, I walk in to the LTC's and only 1 facility called me for a position with 20 applicants. It's tough. I went to school for two years, I sacrificed everything just to finish school and I am really disappointed because it's almost a year and I still don't have a nursing job. I am not sure if I am even still considered a new grad. I am considering moving out of state but it's not that easy. Any advice fellow nurses?:crying2: can an LVN work as a CNA in facility without a CNA license?

I have been a LVN for eight years and passed the RN NCLEX a couple months ago. I have been looking for another LVN job 8 months before I recieved my RN license, without much luck. I have been looking for a RN job since april first and got one interview for part time job, which I was rejected. It is a different nursing world since 2003. As a new grad LVN I was getting a lot of job offers with sign on bonuses!

I actually applied for a CNA and LVN job at a well known research hospital, and was immediately rejected. Human resources stated to me it was a liability issue.

Good luck to the both of us and everyone else.

Sorry you'r having trouble. I'm in the same boat:uhoh3: In fact, I even posted something for advise on how to get a job as a new grad. It has been over a week and still no replies. I work as a CNA and see Nurses snap at each other every day from heavy case loads. I hear nurse manager complain that their staff has no loyalty and they jump from one job to another. All the while seeing constant posts from new grads begging for any scrap of advise to help them just get an opportunity to prove themselves. The whole situation is just sad really. I find it odd that more and more hospital say there focus is on patient satisfaction and all the while there denying opportunities to new grads who will be willing to go the extra mile and bring a little positivity into the work place. I honestly believe this profession is just turning there backs on some AMAZING Nurses. I do believe it will eventually come back to bite them in the end. I wish I could offer words of encouragement to make you feel better but, with more grads being turned out every six months or more (in light of the fact that some schools have been offering clinical during the summer) I just don't see the situation improving. It would seem as though it's all in who you know. Sorry hun....

I also applied in almost every job posting that I saw at craigslist. But got no luck! Only had one interview and was not able to get the job. My last resort was to schedule an appointment with my Uncle who's the Administrator of one of the facilities in my place. They're not hiring right now but because I know the Administrator, they'll try to fit me in their schedule so I can start my training. So I guess, you NEED to know someone for them to care about your resume.

I saw RN jobs through the hospital website directly at mercymercedcares.org

I am an RN, but I know we are always looking for LVNs where I work; The Veterans Home of California in West Los Angeles. We even have a new grad LVN program. It is actually hard to find LVNs in the Los Angeles area for some reason.

I checked the position out and they are hiring LVNs but because of the the "hiring freeze" only internal applicants will be considered. It really is bad out here.

No it is a beautiful, brand new building; located right next to Brentwood and Beverly Hills. We have a hiring freeze at the moment, which happens just about every year at this time. It is because we are a department through the State of California and until they get the State budget straightened out, they put a freeze on hiring and State travel. We are going to be opening up the Memory Care Unit and Skilled Nursing Units within the next 6 months, however, so we will be hiring starting in September. You can still fill out an application online and they will hold it until we start calling for interviews.

How is it working at Veterans Home in LA as a nurse? Do they have new grad programs? What is the the work schedule there?

thank you

The Veteran's Home in West Los Angeles held a recruitment fair last Thursday. It was for CNA's LVN's and RN's. I do not know if they are still accepting applications, but you can always call human resources on Monday.
