I've never known someone who was qualified and truly wanted to be a nurse who didn't end up in a program one way or another.
Maybe they didn't take the traditional route. ...I know some who chose to take the lvn-rn route instead. And some applied several times
Not sure what other majors those who don't get in choose to pursue though
I know of some who have gone into dental hygiene. I know a lot that don't get into the RN but can do the LPN so go through that then transition to the RN program. Some go into medical assisting. I know of some who didn't like the smells and bodily fluids who decided to do coding. There's a lot someone can do.
If you've been rejected, then reassess your grades. If you have C's in any of your pre-req's, I would suggest retaking them if you believe that nursing is truly for you. Minimum requirements for admission does not mean you will automatically be accepted because you meet those requirements.
Truth is, the entire nursing class will be composed of people who are extremely competitive, and not everyone will make it through the program. My class has lost over 20% of our original cohort.
If nursing is what you believe you are destined to do, then try the LPN route, apply to some different colleges for ADN or BSN, and figure out a way. I wish you the best of luck.
All of the ones at my school (Traditional BSN) switch to:
1. Public Health
2. Child Development
Many switch to public health because it has the most pre-requisites in common with nursing at our school. Many others switch to child development because the only reason they wanted Nursing in the first place was to do Pediatrics :)
Our school really has to work with Pre-Nursing students, anyone with below. a 3.7-3.8 doesn't get in.
***Note- most of these students are straight out of high school. We don't have a lot of non traditional students
My backup plan was to major in biology and become a teacher. It's not a money maker but I LOVE biology and that was the only thing I could see myself doing other than nursing. And I didn't want to be the girl who tries for six+ years to get in if it isn't really for me... There was kind of an attitude at my school that the majority of pre-nursing students had no chance but couldn't see it and I was afraid that might be me.

Where do all the nursing students who get rejected end up majoring in? Just curious, there are clearly not enough spots for everyone that is qualified!
