  1. Yes it is for practicum placement. Kind of... the assignment is for my resume writing and interviewing class. We are supposed to identify our short and long term goals. But they will also use it in choosing our practicum.
  2. Hello, I have not been a nurse in UAE but I spent my childhood there so I can answer some of your questions. 3800 AED is about 1000 USD. You need to ask them to specify certain things including your questions about accommodations. This could be anything. There are some horrible places to live in Dubai and some nice places. Don't go if they are not telling you specifics. Ask them what kind of transport they are giving you. Is it a car for you to drive or is someone driving you to work only? If it is the latter, you will have to use a taxi to go anywhere other than work. Are they paying your airfare? Make sure they are also giving you return airfare. Sometimes employers offer airfare for you to return home once a year to visit family. Ask about that. Make sure it is clear how long your contract is, and how you will return home once it is over. Do not let anyone hold your passport. I will tell you that in the UAE nurses are not as respected as they are in other countries. I don't know if this is true for home health nurses. What country are you from? I'm curious about where they are recruiting.
  3. So I am at the point in school where they want me to tell them which department I'm interested in going into right after I graduate. I'm really conflicted! I want to be a really well rounded nurse, so I have listed general medicine as an option and I think I'm going to add IMCU. I haven't been exposed to very many settings though and I don't want to overlook something really good! My long term goals involve travelling to other countries, so I want to start with something that will help make that possible. I'm thinking being well rounded is going to help me the most with that, but does anyone have any insights I'm overlooking? I'm also really interested in psychiatric nursing and one of my instructors has commented that I would be good there. But I'm hesitating about that because I don't know if it would help me travel. Thoughts? Insights?
  4. My backup plan was to major in biology and become a teacher. It's not a money maker but I LOVE biology and that was the only thing I could see myself doing other than nursing. And I didn't want to be the girl who tries for six+ years to get in if it isn't really for me... There was kind of an attitude at my school that the majority of pre-nursing students had no chance but couldn't see it and I was afraid that might be me.
