I'm annoyed. :banghead: When I first decided to go back to school after 15 years of graduating from High School, career counselors and nurses alike told me to go and become a Nurse because we would always be able to find a job no matter where you went due to the nursing shortage. I'm sorry but they were dead wrong. We are having problems getting hired here in Iowa and I've even applied on-line in various states including NC with no avail.

Is there a nursing shortage in your state/city? If so, please state where you live because I can't seem to find a hospital that wants to hire a New Grad.

In phoenix, alot of the programs have been cancelled. Maricopa county hospital will be accepting new grad apps from april15-22. Phoenix's children are accepting new grad apps, now. it's really tough here, good luck to you and everybody looking:bow::bow::bow:

i'm a new grad and i live in colorado and i have had no luck. i applied all around the country and was recently hired in san antonio tx. so i am planning my move next month. :)

I live in PA, most of my classmates have a job, I have yet to fine one and am also not having much luck, I only started applying last month, I wish I would have started in december like everyone else but I wasnt sure if I was going to be able to finsh as I had a baby 8 weeks ago, but I am going to be done in 2 weeks and am dreading having to go back to waiting tables!! I am keeping my hopes up to find something and hope for you too!! Good Luck! :-)

I am from NYC and there are plenty of Agencies that are willing to hire new grads. Most hospitals are also looking for newgrads to train because the veteran nurses are becoming burned out and moving on to other types of nursing after getting that Med/Surg experience.

Naounne01,

could you give some specific examples of places that would hire new grads with no experience in NYC? Agencies are ok.

thanks,

I.

just wondering what NYC hospitals are taking in new grads? the last time i checked...most are on hiring freeze too! it is becoming frustrating to look for a job. :uhoh21:

Not in my area. I live in Missouri and there has been a 50% decline of hiring new grads just from ONE year ago. One hospital used to take 100 new grads a year and now they are only taking 5. Yep, you read that correct FIVE new grads for a large teaching hospital.

I've been in 2 interviews and was turned down for both, saying they went with someone with more experience. I've put in 5 applications since last week and havent heard a thing, not even an email. If I don't get a job by the end of May, I'm considering going back to the corporate world.

I live in Dallas. Same story here.

Most of the major hospitals are on hiring freezes.

I have sent my resume and applied to every hospital known to me in my area.

I've had two interviews, but no offers. I'm doing much better than my classmates, most haven't even had an interview. We graduate in less than three weeks and we are all in panic mode!

No money for new graduates. Plenty of opportunity for nurses with experience. So frustrating!!!!!

Its a shock! I have been looking forward to getting out of school and being a nurse for so long and now this!

I am so discouraged. :o

The same thing happened in '93 when I graduated. It comes in cycles and you need to adapt to this reality and get experience where you can.

Not in Philadelphia, that's for sure. The current crop of approximately 100 accelerated BSN students graduating this May from one of the university programs in Philly is having a terrible time. Only a couple of them have jobs lined up.
