Do you have to always call for abnormal labs?
not to offend anyone but would an abnormal range of albumin be considered as an emergent case to call the doctor? if we don't call right a way....will the patient die because of this albumin result? could it not wait till morning? i believe a high bp is an urgent case but an abnormal albumin.....hmnn, am not too sure about it.

A letter
to put it straight...it means your a second choice or a back up to fill up a slot in case someone backs out. on the other hand, at least your application are on the top of others that was not accepted or not yet approved that they will reconsider if a space is left open. in summary, your application is a back up plan. good luck!

Flu shot controversy
forgive my ignorance but is it true that the current vaccine have both flu and h1n1 components in it? i mean they are not anymore separated but given in one shot. h1n1 vaccine is in its infant stage...what are your thoughts on taking the flu if they are indeed combined together?

How many applications on a hospital website
i believe HR has a computer screener program. the program recognizes words from resume you put in and screens it. basically even if you put in a thousand applications, if your resume doesn't hit the qualifier words or requirement that HR needs....it will just go and sleep in the database for future use. sometimes, they tend to post job ads as well for the purpose of beefing up their database.

is working in the hospital really easier than LTC???
i am contemplating in moving to the hospital. i always think that hospital med surg is easier than ltc w/ grandma's and grandpa's. right now i am taking care of 36 pt and i thought it is already hard. what can be harder than this? i mean in the hospital you only have 6 pts. and you work 3 days in a week whereas in the ltc...you work 5 days/wk. did i just read the topic right "i miss ltc i think" or it just happens to a few? because based from what i read...most nurses in the ltc can't wait to get out of ltc and work in the hospital. can somebody enlighten me as well?

Suspended
common guys and girls....you're advising to let her stay? do you know the consequence and the gamble that she will take. listen to me....it is not worth the gamble to stick around and find out what is the ending. we all know you made a mistake. face the consequence and leave. don't put yourself in the mercy of your ADON or DON. you know that when you get fired, it will stick to your records and will make it harder for you to look for a job? right? i don't know the reason why others are advising differently. maybe they just want to find out the ending but believe me it's not worth it. save your career and get out while you still have the clean slate of career record w/o the stamp of being fired out.

Help! narcotic key turnovers
i'm basically new to a nursing home facility and have been working for a week now as a charge nurse on a night shift. am still overwhelmed by amount of things to accomplish throughout the night. what i usually do is to come early and start my chores early. Here is my PROBLEM....the NEXT UNIT always call me to either hold the key for them without counting the narcotics so they can go home early and not wait for the next nurse to come over. in some nights, they will come into my unit knowing that am early and WILL CALL ME TO COUNT WITH THEM and leave the key. my problem is, am not comfortable holding the narcotic key for the other unit. it takes my time just to count with narcotic with them which is not my unit. i come early bec i want to finish my job and not to become as a holder of the narcotic key next door. i am already overwhelmed and still adjusting with my job, counting for another unit which is not mine makes it more overwhelming. The next unit says that it is just but a norm for them to turnover the key to next unit if the incoming nurse at their unit is late. WHAT CAN I DO? am just not comfortable with the idea. HELP!!!

Advice for the NCLEX-RN
i recently did nclex and passed at 75...the only advice i can give you is to get saunders and take that nervousness away. the exam is not that hard, what makes it hard are the worries we make upon ourselves. it clouds our judgement and test taking skills. good luck!
