Where do LPN's Work?

Hi everyone. I start school in January and I live in Nashville, Tennessee. I want to work in a hospital but most recruit for RN's. Will you guys please advise where I can expect to work after graduation? Thanks! Suz

Nursing homes, home care, prisons, jail, some dr.'s offices, mental health, and sub-acute care. Nation wide acute care hospitals are phasing out lpn's, so your best bet is the above.

Many hospitals in the U.S. are phasing out LPN/LVN jobs. After graduating and getting your LPN license, you can expect to work at nursing homes, sub-acute facilities, hospice, public health clinics, penitentiaries, vocational schools (teaching medical assistants and future LPNs), rehabilitation, home healthcare, and basically LTC.

:smokin: It's true, most jobs are in nursing homes and home health. I'm in Murfreesboro, TN, but I move to Memphis in January to start nursing school. Good to see Tn on the board. :smokin:

There are hospitals that hire LPNs for various depts. All depends on the facility.

Well, I must disagree with some of the above postings. True, a lot of hospitals would prefer RNs, I have heard for the past 10 years that "hospitals are phasing out lpns and you will never be able to work in a hospital." Reality is, no matter how many times we as LPNs are "phased-out" sooner or later they realize that there just aren't enough RNs and they actually DO need us! I have a job interview at a hospital for an LPN position in the trauma-neuro unit. The hospital I am going to hires LPNs ALL throughout their hosptial. Including maternity, ER, oncology, trauma, ortho, acute care, OR, peds etc. It all depends on the facility. It never hurts to apply either!! I have interviewed at LTC facilities also, but my desire is to work at a hospital. I want that experience. I have worked as a CNA for 18 years in nursing homes and am finally ready to broaden my experience into a hospital setting. Good luck to you no matter where you go!! NURSES ARE NEEDED EVERYWHERE!!:)

I am in the Nashville TN area and am looking to get my LPN license somewhere but cannot seem to find a school with evening classes. Any suggestions? PLEASE help. I am trying to do this ASAP!

WHERE DID YOU GO TO SCHOOL??? I am looking for a school in the nashville area to get my lpn license and cannot find one! I need night classes because I work all day! PLEASE HELP! THANKS SO MUCH!
