Ok I'm a second year nursing student in my BSN, in clinical i don't know where to put my stethescope. i want it on my all the time to keep it handy I hate the way it feels around my neck, and it always seems to get in the way there. I tried having it in my pants side pocket but it seems to me that that may not be the best thing for my littman. with all the tubing bent.
SO what does every one do with theirs to carry them around? is there some system available?
thanx SR

i also found that around the neck didn't work too well. i also had one pt nearly strangle me w/ it. my solution is to wear it on my shoulder...feels much the same as wearing a purse. only problem is when bending over so at that point, it goes around my neck for just a brief time then back over the shoulder. works for me!!
I hate to wear my stethescope around my neck. It always gets caught on the rails of the bed when I bend over it. After I use it, I put it back in my bag at my desk (I work in ICU and we have our own desks. Very convenient).
well gee whiz. There's a study for all kinds of things. Now, I will do things my instructors tell me to do -- because they are my instructors. And believe me, it's not uncommon for the current term instructor to do things different than the previous term instructor! However, as for someone telling me "there's a study"--I'd like to know where and when so I can read it for myself. Frequently, people quote studies in a way that has little to do with the reality of the study (done in the news media ALL the time.).
I wore my stethoscope around my neck 28 years when I first became an EMT and wear one around my neck in 2005 as a nursing student. Fortunately, our uniforms include a vest, so, if I want to keep it hidden, it is easy to do--it just goes under the vest!

oops:uhoh3: think that was me!:chuckle it feels like i have been wearing iit most of my life, so i do just hang it around my neck or in my schub jacket pocket..i have lost expensive littmans by setting thme down while doing pt. care (in the same room!) so..it doesnt leave me!
i agree, i have a cheapo, so i wont cry if i lose it. scrunch it up in my pocket works for me. just don't hang it on your rear view mirror, or wear it to the grocery store, i swear i've seen it!!!! major faux pas......hahaha
I have a belt clip from allheart.com. I like it, but it makes a huge bulge under my scrub top. I tried clipping it to my lower front scrub pocket and that worked ok but it pulls the top of the pocket down. I tried putting it in my lower shirt pocket, but the earpieces get hooked on the bed rails.
So, I'm going to keep trying to use the belt clip. Seems like the best option.

I got mine engraved. It was cheap and easy. :)
