Where else can I work without a local license?

Hi all, new grad here... I'm strongly considering going straight to NCLEX and forgoing the NLE, since the US doesn't need it. I need to know what other options I have, as a new graduate without a local license. What other countries hire nurses with no exp and no local license?

for the UK you need 12 months experience and local registration. Saying that current climate would be very hard to find a hospital willing to assist with work permit for the EU, immigration requirements are employ fm home country then rest of EU before the rest of the world. Which ever country you go to you must be able to fluently speak their language and meet their requirements

Most other countries require a local license. And I expect that the US may be changing as well since the large number of grads from PI are increasing at an alarming rate. And there are not enough jobs for them anywhere.

hi,

i just passed my nclex 2 weeks ago, however, i dont have a license in the phil. i just soke with an attorney yesterday and he told me that a local license wont be necessary for me to get employed and also for my change in status (greencard). i am concerned though that i dont have any working experience in the phil. are there any institutions in manila who would accept me as a volunteer nurse?

thanks!

Sorry, but the attorney is not being upfront with you. Sure, you can get employed as a new grad from your country, but it is becoming more difficult, especially if you desire a hospital and not a nursing home.

You also require an employer to start any petitioning process that will end with you getting a green card. And currently, the US is under a retrogression, and we do not know when it will end. And I highly suspect that it will continue for those from your country as there are many more that are wishing to work in the US than there are visas available in one year for all from the entire world.

And with the major increase in the number that are now attending school in your country, expect employers to get much more selective in who they will hire.

Most other foreign countries require a local license, even if you do not have experience before they will permit you to even be considered for a job there. I suspect that the US may make it mandatory in the near future to require those that attended school in PI be required to pass the NLE. It actually was required back when the CGFNS exam was required. And you will probably see it again, if not just as a weeding out exam.

Attorneys cannot do a thing without an employer in terms of immigration. And AOS is not an option for you either.

well, i suggest you take the local board if you're planning to work here first. i mean, u already passed nclex and i believe NLE is way easier so u don't have to worry that much.

A caution to the above:

If you have passed the NCLEX-RN exam, but have not taken the NLE, and then decide to; you must pass the NLE or you will not be able to get a Visa Screen Certificate. And if you decide to go for the NLE after you have gotten the VSC, and do not pass the NLE, that must be reported to CGFNS/ICHP. Taking it later on does not waive your responsbility in reporting it at all.

Please seriously rethink taking the NLE if you are not going to work there. It can put all of your dreams aside for sometime if you do not pass it the first time.

I agree with this presumption. Since the sprouting of nurses here in our country who wants to work abroad is alarming, it wont be too far that this will happen. And should this happen, there would be again perhaps, an 'uprising' on the part of pre-grad nurses complaining of the mandate since their brains are programmed that after marching up the stage, they could march straight to NCLEX, bypassing NLE. June 2006 NLE scam should have been already a lesson for these nurse wannabes...In their want for an easy pass, a total opposite result happened. Worse, along their fall, they drag everybody else with them.

It's not that we (older, experienced nurses) want these new grads to take the hard way (as what's supposed to be if you have the heart for NURSING). It's for their own good and advantage if they pass the local board exam. Financial need is out of the question here because if they can afford NCLEX, why not NLE? Besides, if they wanted SO MUCH to become a nurse, for sure they would look forward to tending patients (in their hometown or wherever as long as in the Philippines first) after getting a license. Sad its no longer the case here mostly.

I hope we Filipino nurses shouldn't see our degree only as a vehicle to go to other countries, but mainly as our authority to perform by heart as modern Florence Nightingales or Good Samaritans of our time, which is far more rewarding than anything else.

Sure, who doesn't need money? My point is, let's get it nurses (Filipino) in a more deserving way.

so do you have any idea or read any articles concerning when will the retrogression be lifted?

can anyone explain to me the thing about direct hiring,, i am planning to do such. pls enlighten me on this topic... thanks!

there are a few threads discussing retrogression in the International forum, much better to keep all the information together

There is also a sticky in the UK forum on direct hire but basically you contact the hospital yourself and their lawyer or one you hire does the paperwork. You do need an employer to start the process and if the hospital backs out then the process starts all over again from the beginning. You have better chances if passed NCLEX and english exams and also if you can gain some working experience

i am a newly grad and i am now waiting for the result of my local board here in the philippines, i have an aunt in california, i'm wondering how can i apply in U.S with the help of my aunt? i want to get there as soon as possible,. what are the requirements i need?:uhoh3:

hi guys! this is very interesting topic for me. actually i am graduating this october and i am really confused if i should take the NLE or not.

like what i posted on the other thread. if unforunately i did not pass the NLE and decided to take the NCLEX, for sure the BON will not approve my application becasue like what suzzane said, if you are not even a passer in your country why would we accept you? how would the BON from the US know that you did not pass the NLE will the Phil BON disclose it? well i am just expecting the worse and hoping for the best. though i am a deans lister in our school.

i really have no plans of working in PI since all my sisters are there working as nurses and some are doctors.

my only concern is that, are there any hospital in CA who accepts newly NCLEX passer without any experience?
