Where can LPN's work?

Published

Hi guys!

So i KNOW they can work in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes etc. I guess my actual question is: Whats the difference between them? Im trying to get into the LPN program at Orlando Tech and would like some information from any LPN's here that work or have worked at different locations. Whats the pay, schedule, stress levels?? Any information would be appreciated. All i know is that i want to becoma an LPN to help others. I have noooo medical background and have nooo idea what im getting myself into when it comes to the actual JOB. Thank you!! Any of you guys work around Orlando???? The only thing i know is that at a hospital you can work 12 hr shifts which seem awesome for me since i have a family of my own idk if i want the typical m-f 8-5 job you know? i think i would rather work really hard for 3 days but then again what do i know :p

In my area, they only work in nursing homes and usually 8 hour shifts.

In my area, they are getting away from hiring a lot of LPNs in the hospital. At least in the primary hospital in town.

A lot of doc's offices are using LPNs but for the most part the nursing homes and various clinics hire LPNs.

If you can, take the extra year and get either your ADN or BSRN.

thanks for those replys :) i was hoping for a hospital position just because of the schedule....

In the area where I live, LPNs/LVNs are utilized in nursing homes, home health, dialysis centers, clinics, doctors offices, urgent care centers, group homes, adult day care, assisted living, psychiatric facilities, rehabilitation hospitals, long term acute care hospitals, private duty, jails, prisons, and hospices.

Most LTCs in my area do the 12 hour shifts. Only places like assisted living facilities still do 8 hrs. I've done both and actually preferred the 8 hr shifts.

You should try posting the Florida forum. You might get more specific answers for your question.

I used to live near Orlando and there are a few nursing homes that do ( or did) the 12hr shifts. Esp those out towards Winter Garden and Ocoee. Like most posters have mentioned, most LPNs work in clinics or nursing homes. You could also try out patient surgery clinics as well..but if you want the 12hr or 16hr shifts, its going to be in a nursing home. I almost went to Orlando Tech but I moved and went to another school. Good luck!!

Thanks for the replys. I will try the Florida forum. What exactly does the LPN do at a nursing home??? Like i sayd before i dnt really know what im getting into but i just know i want this :)

^^

Mostly pass out medications, do blood sugars, and wound care. As well as paperwork, vitals etc. But most of the time is spent at the med cart.

Also, as far a LVN pay the hospitals usally pay the lowest.

Wow really?? I figured hospitals would pay better than anywhere else...would you say that working at a nursing home is less stressful/responsibility then wrking at a hospital???
