Where to buy nursing books?

I had a lot of luck with walmart.com. There were a few books that I needed that were not available, but even with the cost of shipping I saved 10-15% over the school bookstore and publisher's prices.

I got all of my books at the school bookstore because after searching for them online I found that the few bucks that I would save in the cost was going to be eaten up in the shipping. After all the shipping charges all of my books would have been more than just going to the bookstore. :) Also, I found that at my school, our 1st semester of books were about $600-700 but the 2nd semester was only about $250. Is your summer session your 1st session???

I am sure this has been asked here before so I am sorry for asking it again but what is the best/cheapest way to get nursing books. I just received my nursing book list for the summer and there are 16 books I need to get. For a grand total of $780 and this is just for the summer session. I have gone to different websites and ordered some of my books but I was wondering if there is one website that beats them all. It is a bit annoying to have to try and keep track as what I ordered from each website. Its down right confusing :angryfire .

You take your chances with this way, but I have only been inconvienced, not unhappy; Half.com. I HATE when someone gets highlighter happy and highlights the whole passage, and this is pretty much the only thing I have found with the used books. I have found the used books from the school bookstore are in better condition, but not as cheap. I have also noticed some of the books now have CDs and I don't know what kind of condition those will be in. Anyway, just another option.

Textbookx.com ... I've ordered from them 3 times and never paid shipping - it's generally waived if your order total is > $100 or $200, which isn't much when it comes to textbooks!

A lot of these books will be used throughout your curriculum, so subsequent semesters' purchases shouldn't cost as much.

I've bought nearly all my books on-line with great success and I have saved hundreds. The shipping is usually not that expensive if you order early and use book rate(media mail). There are some search/comparison sites that really save you time. They will do a search( Best to use ISBN# to be sure you have correct book) and list the prices and condition(New or used) of most of the major booksellers as well as half.com, amazon, etc. Some do offer free shipping. This is probably a dumb question, but......

Do you guys keep ALL of your nursing books after you graduate and pass the NCLEX? And if so, do you refer to all of them, or just a few?

I can't believe the high cost of books either. I've bought a few off of eBay, but you really don't know what you are getting in terms of being written in, or the CD being scratched, etc. I get most of mine from the college bookstore, but it is unbelievable what they are getting for USED books.

And I haven't even started buying nursing books yet! Maybe when I decide which school, I can get a list and buy them slowly so it doesn't seem like such a big bite out of my checkbook.

They all let you do price checks of multiple stores to find the best deals. Usually they all have about the same price, but occasionally one of them will have a very low price the others don't have. Using these has saved me anywhere from 15% to 50% on my books in the past.

I've gotten most of my books through the campus bookstore but have also found a lot through Amazon.com and a couple off of eBay. Most of what I've bought off of Amazon were review and/or study guides. Med-Surg, anatomy charts, etc.

I'm a huge amazon.com and half.com fan too. Also try mysimon.com and pricegrabber.com which will do all the leg work for you and come up with the cheapest deal on what you're looking for. It's great!
