Nurses Uniform/Gear
Published May 8, 2015
I just got hired as an HHA, and uniform is scrubs -- any color/print is okay! I'm a poor student though, so I need to buy them at not $20 per piece, especially since I'll need multiple sets. Any suggestions?

I got fecal mattery scrubs when I first started working and got an upgrade just recently. I think it's probably the way we all do it. Word of advice, though - buy an extra pair for the trunk of your car. You'll need them on occasion, due to actual fecal matter, not proverbial.
Yeah, I'll get good scrubs when I get my license and a job...you know, when I've got some money lol

I would encourage you not to go "too cheap" and I'll tell you why.
My sets that I spent just a little more on have far outlasted the cheap sets. The cheap sets that I have bought, some of which wouldn't even fit after I washed them one time or faded horribly until they were too unprofessional to wear.
I used to buy Grey's Anatomy but I discovered that Jockey lasts far longer. You may have better success on ebay. The local stores here are ridiculously expensive. I go to get the size and style number and then order online. I'm small so I have to try everything on.

make sure they are of ample size, to accommodate shrinkage AND not to increase stress on seams....

Do you have a Burlington Coat Factory near you? I got the Grey's Anatomy tops for $7.99 (style #4153) and they're amazing, so much so I ordered another one at full price.

I got a couple pairs for free from former students. Previous students often get new scrubs for their new jobs, and are willing to dump their school ones for a lot less.

I get a lot of mine at Walmart. I still have scrubs that I bought from them more than 5 years ago and that are still performing well.
Tip: if you're a female and buy unisex, go down a size (e.g., if you're a women's XL, go for unisex L).

eBay is where i get all of mine- sometimes someone retiring or trying something different will be selling a whole bunch together and if its your size and the style you like- big score. I sometimes wish hospitals would go back to just having scrubs for everyone and changing in the locker room, but for some the wearing of the scrub in public is like a badge of honor.

I try on styles at the uniform store, find what I like in what size, then buy the online.
For cheap scrubs, try Wal-Mart.
I bought my Maternity scrubs on EBay since I wasn't planning on using them for very long.

Does it make you feel bad to not shop local? If I were to go into a uniform store I wouldn't want to take up their time. Sometimes I think it is ok to pay a little more for the customer service and one-on-one. Are the Wal-Mart scrubs comfortable?
and what brands do you like the best?
