Where is the best online NP program

Where is the best online Family NP program? By best I mean..... Where are the instructors concerned about student learning and not trying to do harm to your GPA? Certainly cost is important but more important to me is a quality education that is without the contorversy of difficult to deal with professors who are not there to teach. I plan on studying constantly and writing all the papers that are required. I have heard too many horror stories of NP programs with battle axe professors that aim to see students struggle. For example, I have a good friend who is currently in a NP program here in Alabama, she is extremely frustrated by the attempts of many professors in the program to fail students. According to her, of 80 that started last year they are down to about 1/2 still remaining. They are still in the core concepts, not the clinicals or speciality tracks! That is not what I consider to be a stable learning environment. Surely someone here knows of a good, quality education facility that offers an online FNP track without the associated headaches of a bad program. I attended an online BSN program and loved it. The professors were all genuinely concerned with providing guidance and a quality educational experience. Because of this environment I learned a ton of new information that made me a better nurse. Unfortunately, that school does not have a NP program. Please email if you have any suggestions on a quality educational program for the Family NP. Thank you.

So if you go to Rush or Jefferson via distance ed, and you live in California, they will find agencies and preceptors in California and secure all the necessary paperwork, including specialty area rotations (peds, ob/gyn, derm, ortho, podiatry, geriatrics)?

TammyRN, I left you a message about USI. I love Jalane. I hope I get accepted.

Can we talk?

Hi, sorry for responding so late. This term has kicked the crap out of me. Let me know if my message went through.

Hi Tammy - I am considering USI or ISU for post-masters FNP program. I am about half way through my MSN program at Excelsior. I really want to complete the FNP program as well. I had already started at Excelsior when I found out about USI and ISU. How do you like USI? Did you also apply to ISU? I applied to USI last summer but decided to finish the program at Excelsior and do the post-masters option for FNP. USI told me that they only take on post-masters students if space is available. I may have better luck at ISU.

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks - Robin

Hi. I actually started at ISU for their FNP program and transfered after two courses to USI. I really like the USI program. The professors are all down to earth, very encouranging and have extensive NP exp. One of the professors is actually the first NP in the state of Indiana. As far as ISU goes, they have a wonderfull undergraduate program where I now am on staff. I will say in retrospect, however, that I am very satisified with my decision to transfer to USI.

Good luck and let me know if you need more info.

They say they do. I see on their web they have a list of sites (for psych) they already use. None are in CA but there is in Oregon, New Mexico, etc. so it looks like they have set them up in many places for students.

Rutgers in NJ.

One of my profs got her DNP from Rush. She has nothing but terrific things to say about the whole experience. She already had a PhD and said that for her, the DNP was more demanding b/c the traditional research and writting was more straightforward and there were more resources to go to. She thought the clinical research project was more challenging, because she couldn't do a retrospective study, she has to acutally conduct her own clinical project. She says the DNP may be a shortcut to a doctorate at some Universities, but it is NOT at Rush. Expect to earn it.

That said, she kind of discouraged me from applying htere b/c she admitted that she would not have borrowed 30K a year to go there. Her husband is a cardiothoracic surgeon and paid for it for her. My husband will have trouble lending me the money for legal pads. ;) Like , Rush seems to be outstanding, if you can afford it.

Snickers79 - Are you currently a student at ECU? I am curious why you like it. I am looking at different programs and ECU comes highly recommended. I will check their website and program for more info.

Thanks - Robin

Hello guys.

I am currently an RN who is interested in pursuing an advanced nursing degree as an FNP. However I have come across a road block. I am a resident of NY and many programs are not accepting NY state residents. For example I pulled this off the Indiana state university website "

At this time, the New York State Board of Education has not recognized or approved Indiana State University to conduct clinical nursing education with citizens from New York.

Indiana State nursing programs have been submitted for review but it has yet to be determined if the online programs will be considered.

Due to this unfortunate circumstance, the nursing programs at Indiana State University will not be accepting any undergraduate or graduate nursing students from the state of New York for admission into the major."

and this from the University of South Alabama website

New York and Pennsylvania residents only:

We have recently been notified by your state*s Higher Education Board

that all education programs including online programs must have approval

by this board prior to citizens from your state enrolling in a program.

Unfortunately, this means that we are unable to accept your application

for the MSN program here at USA College of Nursing until we obtain

approval to offer our program in your state. We sincerely apologize for

this inconvenience. If you have any questions at all, please do not

hesitate to contact me.

Is anyone else having this problem??? are there any NY state residents currently in an NP program online that can assist me????

I would really appreciate it, please help a fellow nurse in need!!!

Thanks in advance

I'm sorry but what a f*cking joke that there are online NP programs....and NP's expect to be respected! Holy cow wow.....never try to sell your profession/ask for advanced roles because this is odd/unsafe/insulting.
