Where is the best online NP program
Hi Tammy - I am considering USI or ISU for post-masters FNP program. I am about half way through my MSN program at Excelsior. I really want to complete the FNP program as well. I had already started at Excelsior when I found out about USI and ISU. How do you like USI? Did you also apply to ISU? I applied to USI last summer but decided to finish the program at Excelsior and do the post-masters option for FNP. USI told me that they only take on post-masters students if space is available. I may have better luck at ISU. Any info would be helpful. Thanks - Robin

Chiropractor to FNP
Hi drjulie - I too am a chiro who decided to get my RN. I went to Excelsior when they accepted chiros into their RN program. I am so glad I did it when I did. I graduated in 2004 from Excelsior. I am actually in their MSN - Education program right now. I love it. I am home with my 2 kids so I decided to load up on credits as I could handle them just so I can get done faster. I am applying for instructor positions for next fall already too. A couple schools will consider me b/c I would graduate in Jan which is close enough for them. I would encourage you to look at schools in your area. I don't regret for a second that I went back and left chiro. I have so many more options. As stated in another post you can keep working while you cont your education in nursing. Also everyone is very supportive and encouraging! My plan would be to teach nursing and I am looking into post-masters certificate FNP program. That way I could practice and teach. There are just so many avenues to explore. Good luck! Let me know if you have additional questions. Robin

MSN Information please
Hi - I am currently at Excelsior College. They have an online MSN in Nursing Informatics. I just finished my first class. My intention is to do the MSN in Education but would like to take additional courses in Informatics as well. Excelsior is a great school and they have been really helpful. They also have a Healthcare Informatics Certificate which is I think 6 courses. I would consider doing a double major MSN with Education and Informatics if they allow it. We'll see how long it would take etc...etc..I would recommmend Excelsior when looking for MSN - Informatics programs. Hope this helps!

Any Ball State Univ FNP/ANP students
I also recently applied to BSU. I was told I would hear something Oct/Nov time frame if I can start Jan 2009. I know some schools online students pay in-state tuition. Does anyone know if this is the case for BSU? Also any thoughts on how current students are liking the program would be helpful. Thanks! Robin

Where is the best online NP program
I do think there is an overlap in holistic philosophies. I think thats why nursing felt like a natural transition and that this is something I was supposed to be doing. I always felt like something was missing or I didn't feel fulfilled like I thought I would in chiro practice. I have also had the opportunity to work with great NP's personally and professionally and I really admired their work. It was finally time to stop kidding myself and believe that this is what I would rather be doing. I am getting off track but I do think certainly think there is overlap of holistic philosophies. I am excited the direction some of healthcare is taking toward holistic care and integrative medicine. I hope to be able to combine some traditional and complementary methods in practice. Thanks! I will keep you posted!

Where is the best online NP program
Thanks for the updates and numbers. I applied for spring 2009 (for both BSU and USI), so hopefully I should be o.k. for deadlines etc...I will call to double check. I am due with our second baby in October so next spring will work great. I applied to the RN-MSN program. I have a bachelors in exercise science and associates in nursing. I have 4 years nursing experience. I am chiropractor as well and want to transition into advanced nursing practice. I will keep you posted! Thanks again for your help. I appreciate it. Robin

Where is the best online NP program
Well its official!!! After looking further into USI I decided to apply, I already applied to BSU. I hope my references and transcripts won't take to long in getting there. I didn't find anything on BSU's website regarding MSN students being able to pay in-state tuition. I will have to clarify but doesn't look like it. Unless someone else can tell me for sure?? Thanks again for the info on USI. I really hope I get in to either at this point, but USI could be a first choice based on $$. How long did it take for you to get your acceptance? Thanks again!!! Robin

Where is the best online NP program
Tammy79 - Thank you for the additional info! I completely forgot or didn't think I would be able to pay in-state for USI. Is that the same for BSU as well? I will ask them about how long it will take. I think they do still have it set up to be a part-time program. One more question....is it hard to set up your own clinicals? I know a few MD's and NP's but don't know if they would be willing to precept? That is one area I am concerned about with either program, BSU or USI. Do you recommend starting to network for them now? I hope to start either program spring of 09. Thanks again - I appreciate your help. Wish you continued good luck with your program!

Where is the best online NP program
Tammy79, Are you currently enrolled at USI? I looked at the program and it looks really good. I recently applied to Ball State and I am waiting to hear back. I like USI as well. I may apply there as well to keep my options open. Anymore info would help. Thanks for your feedback.

Chiropractor to FNP
I was just curious about the Mid America program. They haven't gotten back to me yet. I am primarily looking at other programs since I do have my RN. I applied to BSU and looking at Frontier and a couple others. The whole program at BSU is cheaper than one year with the Mid America program. I applied to BSU mid-June. I hope to hear soon!!! How long does it typically take? I am expecting to hear something within 6 - 8 wks. Thanks - Robin

Chiropractor to FNP
Hi - Sorry in my previous post I meant I would call or email MidAmerica regarding their program. As of this afternoon they have not gotten back to me yet. I will certainly pass along any info I receive. Thanks!

Chiropractor to FNP
I looked at the program through Mid American yesterday. I guess I have a few concerns? (I am a chiro as well as RN, I just applied to BSU for the MSN-FPN program) I am going to Mid American on Monday. The application fee is really high $500! Do they want the cost of the program $30,000 up front before you can register for classes? Also, is the program accredited? I think it is through Harding-Simmons? Most of what I saw was courses/content for the BSN program. Since I am already an RN can I go right into the MSN program? It seems really costly up front but may be worth it. I guess I will see what they say when i call. Have you gotten any more info or spoken to them directly? How new is the program? Thanks - Robin

Chiropractor to FNP
DC2RN - When did you graduate from Excelsior? I too am a chiropractor and went back for my RN from Excelsior and graduated in 2004. Where are you going for your NP? I just applied to Ball State and will probably apply to Frontier as well. I have been in the OR for a few years. At first I loved it and now I know I want something different. I have worked in pre/post op which is nice too. I don't regret for a second that I went back for my RN. There are so many possiblities. The CPNE exam from Excelsior is very challenging. I thought VERY different from chiro boards. I agree that you do need RN experience to be a NP. Chiro and nursing fields are very different. It is nice to hear from other chiros who transitioned into nursing as well. I love it and so glad I did it. I like that I can work part-time, be home with my kids and work towards the NP. I am really excited for the NP program. I finally feel like I am on the right track and this is what I was meant to do. Thanks for sharing! Robin
