Are online ANP degrees destroying our credibility?
From reading the comments, I would like to say that even if the individual does complete an online program they are still required to sit for national certification. If these places you speak of are just diploma mills how can you expect them to pass the national certification? Personally I believe if anyone applies their education be it from online or on ground campus and can pass the national certification they are equally competent.

Need advice on this offer..New Grad
That does seem a little low to me as well, I went today for an interview they advertised as needing a NP full time and then proceeded to say after 2 months of full time the hours would go down to 16 hours per week at 36 hour with no bonus, no insurance, no anything. I live in TN and have noticed over the last year rates for NP's have been on steady decline.

Passed AANP!
I sit for the AANP exam in January 2012, any ideas of what to study or review books would be helpful to ensure passing the exam? Congrats to you, I hope I pass the first time I sit as well.

Frustrated with FNP program :(
I am attending RODP through ETSU for the FNP we too have to locate our own preceptors. They provide us with a list of those who already have a contract, but I have called everyone on the list and have been getting the same response either they are too busy or they do not precept FNP students. I live in the Knoxville, TN area which should be easy to find a physician or a FNP to precept but I have had no luck. Wish you well in your search. :)

Doctoral degree to become an NP???
There is also the DrNP - which is a clinical doctorate and is described as an academic practice doctorate that is both a research and practice degree which requires a clinical dissertation. (Academic practice doctorate). The PhD is the doctor of philosophy which is research based. The DNP is doctor of nursing practice (practice doctorate) which depending on the institution may be either research based or non-research based degree and may or may not require a clinical dissertation which is also dependent upon the institution. (Professional practice doctorate). According to the AACN, the DNP degree prepares the graduate for the highest level of advance practice in nursing. My personal opinion is that a master prepared APN should remain and the DNP should not be a requirement. APNs are already widely recognized by the general public as providing high-quality care, this should be a choice and not a requirement (again my personal opinion).

I researched them at that point and they have 33 complaints from the Better Business Bureau and the BBB gave them a grade F. Buyer Beware

Dosage Calculations
If anyone would be willing to help me with the following problem would be greatly appreciated. Calculate the creatinine clearance for a 70 year old who weights 150 lbs and has a serum creatinine of 2.5mg/dl using the following formula: ClCr (male) in ml/min=lean body weight (kg) x (140 - age in years) / serum creatinine x 72. A. Clarithromycin (Biaxin) is an antibiotic which requires a reduced dosage if the creatinine clearance is below 30 ml/min. B. Suppose the patient were a 60 year old male instead of a 70 yr old. C. Suppose the patient were a 60 year old woman. The formula changes to ClCr (female) in ml/min=lean body weight (kg) x (140 - age in years) (0.85) / serum creatinine x 72. Thank you

High blood pressure
Someone had ask for my source of information, I have two resources which are required text for my graduate classes. Primary Care A Collaborative Practice, 3rd edition by Buttaro, Trybulski, Bailey & Sandberg-Cook. Pg 572 and 573 define the JNC 6 and JNC 7 as having established new blood pressure parameters which now include a category of prehypertension which is Systolic of 120 and Diastolic at 80-89. Clinical Guidelines in Family Practice, 4th edition by Uphold & Graham. Pg 486 states the same and reports that the JNC 7 have established new blood pressure parameters. Also pg 485 states "treatment goal is lowered to 130/85 (or 125/75 in patients with renal disease and severe proteinuria)". I have HTN and was diagnosed at 22 and have been on medication since then and about 3 years ago was placed on a second medication, which my MD changed 2 weeks ago and he stated that the guidelines had changed a little over 1 1/2 years ago and he wants my BP below 120/80.

Grad school grades
My grades are better, but I made A's and B's in the BSN program, so far I have a 4.0 GPA in graduate school, but unlike others comments of finding graduate school easier, I find it extremely hard, and spend all my spare time studying and writing numerous papers. And I find it Stressful!!! It may be my older age and working full time???

Online FNP/ACNP Programs
I am currently pursuing my FNP online through the RODP and ETSU, it is not that expensive. I was accepted to Ball State, RODP/ETSU, Indiana State Univ. and Graceland. I chose RODP/ETSU due to expense as well as graduating with my BSN from ETSU 14 years ago. With RODP you can choose full time or part time. I am attending part time due to working full time. Hope this information helps, also no GRE is needed and no trips except to clinicals which are set up in your area.

10 Tips for Home Health Nursing
I have been in Home Health for the past 7 years and I love it. And I agree with either you will love home health or you will be running back for your prior specialty. Many nurses do not like home health, while others love it, it is like any specialty area. I have worked as a field nurse in home health, as a clinical supervisor for HH, and a DON of a HH, I prefer being in the field seeing patients and that is what I am doing now. The OASIS, well I am a COS-C, certified oasis specialists. If I have an admission, a recert or a post hospital I always make sure my OASIS, cert and orders are complete that night, if you let the paper work go it can mount up and be overwhelming. When I was the DON and clinical supervisor, my rule was you had till the next morning to turn in your prior days paper work, no excuses, this prevented the staff from getting behind and if someone else picked up the patient they had all the complete information needed.

HELP!
You should have counted with Nurse B to make sure the narcotic count was correct before she left and handed her keys off. If the count was off she should have looked over the MARS to make sure she had signed off each narc med given was signed out. By allowing the Nurse B to leave and you taking the keys you were accepting that the count was correct. You accepted the responsibility and would share in the discrepancy.

High blood pressure
They changed the guidelines and lowered HTN 130/80, so anything above these parameters are considered hypertensive.
