Where have you applied? Gotten your acceptance/rejection letter yet?

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

Hi there! Just wanted to get to know each other some more and kind of see what everyone's plans were.

Just curious to see:

  1. Where all did you apply for NP school?
  2. Which school is your first choice and why?
  3. What speciality? (FNP, PMHNP, ACNP, AGNP, etc)?
  4. What was your GPA, GRE, and how much/what type of experience did you have?
  5. Have you heard back from any school(s) yet?
  6. What semester are you looking to start?
  7. Online or on campus?

Here are my answers:

  1. UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Charlotte, UNC Wilmington, University of Alabama. Debating applying to Duke, Vanderbilt, & NYU (I will apply to those once I get acceptance/rejection letters from the first 4, just because they are all so expensive, they would be my last choices).
  2. Chapel Hill is my first choice now - it's distinguished but still a state school so it's affordable. I currently live in Charlotte, NC, so I wouldn't be moving so far I would be leaving my family completely. Alabama is my 2nd choice. Their program would be amazing because it combines the FNP & PMHNP and it's all online, which would be fantastic.
  3. I've applied to FNP and PMHNP programs. I have a background in psychiatric emergency department and also pulmonary progressive telemetry. I would be so happy with either route, and honestly I couldn't decide myself. So I figured whatever program I got into would ultimately make the decisions for me.
  4. I have a 3.76 overall GPA with a 3.9 in nursing. My GRE wasn't outstanding, I scored a 152 on verbal, 162 on quantitative, and 4.0 on writing. I have 2 years experience.
  5. Not heard back anything yet. Most deadlines just hit, so I'm thinking by mid-April I should know something.
  6. UNC Charlotte starts in the summer, but all other programs are Fall 2014.
  7. I would honestly prefer an online curriculum, but the only online only is Alabama. The rest are combined into on-campus and distance education.

Nice to meet you all!

Specializes in PACU, MICU.

I'm glad I'm not the only one freaking out about any decisions yet!

  1. Where all did you apply for NP school? Western Carolina University, UNCC, and UNCW
  2. Which school is your first choice and why? Western Carolina actually. My husband is applying for their CRNA program and we'd both love to live in the mountains for a little while, so it'd be super convenient!
  3. What speciality? (FNP, PMHNP, ACNP, AGNP, etc)? FNP. I'm an ICU nurse so I seriously considered ACNP but in the end I thought I'd have more options if I could cover all ages
  4. What was your GPA, GRE, and how much/what type of experience did you have? GPA was 3.6, GRE 310/Analytical 4, and I was a PACU nurse for 3 years and now an ICU nurse for 2 years
  5. Have you heard back from any school(s) yet? None. I've gotten emails from Western (several) saying they're starting interviews this month and applicants should know by April 9 if they have an interview- I haven't heard either way, sadly. I got the email from UNCC saying they were reviewing applications and should begin notifying applicants by April 15 of decisions. Nothing from UNCW.
  6. What semester are you looking to start? Fall 2014
  7. Online or on campus? I'd prefer on campus or a hybrid but at this point, I'm okay with anyone letting me in!

I got my acceptance to CU-Denver last Wednesday. :-)

Congrats everyone

Got my acceptance to USA FOR WHNP ? starting in Summer

I applied to UF and University of South Florida.

UF is my first choice.

I applied for the FNP track at both.

I have a 3.9 GPA for my BSN, nine years of ER experience, but I got baseline gre scores. GRE was only needed for UF. I did petition my mediocre scores though.

I got accepted to USF to start in August. Still waiting on UF. Their deadline was a month later than USF's.

Good luck to everyone still waiting just like me! :)

Where all did you apply for NP school? University of Cincinnati, Simmons college and Azusa Pacific University

Which school is your first choice and why? Azusa Pacific and 2nd choice University of Cincinnati, because I really wanted to move to California but hubby didn't get transfered there yet though (military spouse)

What speciality? (FNP, PMHNP, ACNP, AGNP, etc)? FNP

What was your GPA, GRE, and how much/what type of experience did you have? BSN gpa 3.4, master of public health gpa 3.7. I have been a nurse for 4yrs mostly Med surg, orthopedics

Have you heard back from any school(s) yet? Got accepted in all three. Simmons was 1st to response, then Azusa Pacific mid march and University of Cincinnati today. Have decided to go with University of Cincinnati due to lower cost $30.000 while simmons is almost $60.000

What semester are you looking to start? Fall 2014

Online or on campus? Hybrid- campus, so can take all classes online but have to do clincal in Cincinnati ( my hubby is stationed 1.5hrs away from Cincinnati so I will have to make it work:D )

Lauris,

Just be sure since your hubby is military that the school you choose will be accepted in ANY and EVERY state that you may be transferred to. I know nothing about AZU but I know (because I attend Simmons) that NY is not acceptable while in school...UC make sure you really contact them, when I applied they were NOT good about communication at all, and as a former Mil-spouse myself, its important that you can reach out to your school if there is any military issues (have to miss class etc due to hubby's stuff). I have been working with Simmons with military spouses since I'm currently attending (trying to get them to partner with the Tillman foundation for the Tillman military scholars program) and there are 4 of us in the March cohort that are military spouses (one student's husband just deployed last week) but I can say they are EXTREMELY student centered with their support and with finding preceptors. (you could use your closes military base clinics) good luck and have fun!

Ash, Micu (or any other UNCC applicants)-- 5pm on the 15th, Any news??

Specializes in Neurosurgical ICU, PACU.

I applied for UNCC's FNP Fall 2014 program. Called today, secretary told me that the "committee was still meeting today" and letters would be sent out when she was directed to do so. I asked when that may be and her reply was "no clue." I think we'll all be waiting for a while longer...

Specializes in ICU, Psych, ED, Tele, Progressive.

I'm getting real anxious.

Nothing from UNCC, was supposed to hear yesterday but apparently that's when they were meeting to make final decisions.

I had my interview at Western yesterday- very nice location. Anxiously awaiting to hear ANYTHING from them, UNCC, or UNCW, esp with the option to start UNCC in May!

Tasha, thanks that is a good thing you are doing at Simmons with helping and inplementing these scholars program for military families. I really liked Simmons too but the fees compared to University of Cincinnati was a deal breaker for me. I am doing the hybrid-on campus program at UC so will be doing my clinicals around Cincinnati. They also have the GI bill for university of Cincinnati and a school that has so many benefits for military and their families. In all honesty I haven't had any issues with communication with them. My emails and phone calls have been returned within 24hrs, thank God. That said I figured I will get instate tuition so I can easily cover the cost without taking any loans. Good luck with Simmons and I have decided to still enroll in the bio bridge course this May, so I might change my mind since I won't start both programs till August/sept respectively anyways.
