  1. Enough of this madness. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. In every profession, knowing your worth is key, some people know how to sell themselves while some don't . Life is a choice , live it I am JS
  2. I wish i could be of help but i have no experience yet as a NP. I know someone who did occ health as a NP though and she loved it. She does 12hrs shift, i remember she told me its like urgent care with the kind of patients she encountered. This is just a question not related to the topic though. As a new grad how is the job market for NPs? i gradute in 3 months and we are considering relocating to Southern Cali. Is the pay good? I want the move to be fruitful if i have to relocate. Thanks for your time
  3. aok7 can i send you a private message?? I have a few questions since i am planning on switching from UC FNP to their adult-gero program Thanks Lauris
  4. I contacted Clinicalmatch me but unfortunately they can't find me coverage in Tacoma Washington. Desperation and faustration is an understatement. I know no one in Washington since we just moved here ( mil family )
  5. Happy New Year to everyone, Please i am in deperate need to get an insight on the job market for new grad FNP's in Washington State. I will be graduating from NP school this Summer and relocating to Fort Lewis area ( military Spouse). Is WA saturated like some other states and how is the starting salary? Thanks and i will appreciate any info i can get Lauris
  6. Happy New year to you all. I am in desperate need in getting an insight on the job market for an RN with 7years of experience. I will be moving to Dupont this summer due to my husband getting stationed there. How is the hourly pay around that area. Also does anyone know how the job market looks for new Nurse Practitioners ? Hope to hear from someone and thanks for in advance
  7. Nursey43 sorry for the late response; I don't come on the site so often. How long it will take to find a preceptor will depend solely on the preceptors. I had to call and left messages for them to call me back. What area are you located in? In making these calls I have realized that it's good to start early to secure sites, the reason being most of these preceptors always have student so the earlier you start the better. I work with 2 MDs who are willing to take me for Adult and Peds so I am lucky with that one. Women's health is a challenged. Are you going full time or part time? Do you know when you will start clinical next year? If you tell me the area you live in I can see if I have the list for the area and I can email it to you. I currently have IL, MD, OH, KY and MI. Like it is with most programs you have to put in some work. I like their blackboard. For the classes I have taken so far, the instructor record videos and Notes on PDF with group discussions. There are three rotations (Adult, peds and women health). If you are interested in a specialty for example Cardi0logy, you are only allowed 60hrs out of the 504 total hours to use for specialty. There are no elective courses. I was told if it happens that you are not lucky to find preceptors when you are suppose, then you can take some classes which will not count towards your MSN till you find a preceptors. Hope I am able to help. Good luck
  8. This is for practicing and new graduate FNPs. I am due to graduate from a FNP program in less than a year and I was hoping to gather some insight on the job market for new grads and pay in different states. My husband is in the military and we need to put in for a transfer. For now we are looking at WA, TX, CA, NC, VA. Any information will be greatly appreciated on any state as we can always change our minds. Thank you
  9. i moved to fort knox area some 9 months ago( mil spouse) so I do understand these questions. You need to start the process now, mine took bout 4 weeks. Nursing jobs are hard to come by around Fort knox, Radcliff, Elizabethtown. I work in Louisville because i couldn't find anything around here. If you have experience in LTC check out Signature Health Care, they seem to be all over KY and they are always hiring. Matter of fact, the one located in E-town which is about 15miles is currently looking for nurses. I took a pay cut relocating here but i had no choice. I think the pay might be around the same with GA. I have 5yrs experience and i make 31$ hr but i am prn so don't know. Good luck to you
  10. RNKMY I am currently in the UC program. I had initially started the program on campus fall 2014 but switched to DL to change this summer. I actually switched to DL because it doesn't matter if it's online or DL you still have to find your own preceptors and the campus one was all over the place with no direction. It was horrible. Talking about preceptors, yes you have to find your own. Once you are getting close to starting clinical, email your clinical coordinator and she will send you a lost of preceptors different students have used in your state/area. That is what I just did and from the list, I made calls and asked if they are willing to precept me. I already have Peds and Adult health secured and I start clinical in January. As for the other clinical question, you do not need 2 preceptors for all three rotations. For example if you find an MD who has a clinic and sees both peds and adult, you can use the MD as long as they are willing to take you for the required hours. I also know you cant use more than 8 preceptors for the total three locations and you need at least 100 hours with a NP in any of the rotations. My advisor called me and we talked for a while and explained and emailed me everything I needed to know and the steps. Hope that helps, good luck and congrats. BTW the fees is reasonable; one of the reasons I ended going with them and declining three other admissions.
  11. I am currently in the program and it takes about a month to hear back with a decision. Are you applying to do the program DL/online?
  12. Tasha, thanks that is a good thing you are doing at Simmons with helping and inplementing these scholars program for military families. I really liked Simmons too but the fees compared to University of Cincinnati was a deal breaker for me. I am doing the hybrid-on campus program at UC so will be doing my clinicals around Cincinnati. They also have the GI bill for university of Cincinnati and a school that has so many benefits for military and their families. In all honesty I haven't had any issues with communication with them. My emails and phone calls have been returned within 24hrs, thank God. That said I figured I will get instate tuition so I can easily cover the cost without taking any loans. Good luck with Simmons and I have decided to still enroll in the bio bridge course this May, so I might change my mind since I won't start both programs till August/sept respectively anyways.
  13. When do you graduate? I know of a place around La Grange that are always looking for psych NP's
  14. Thank you guys I'm in the process of applying to these places. I hope I get something soon
  15. Where all did you apply for NP school? University of Cincinnati, Simmons college and Azusa Pacific University Which school is your first choice and why? Azusa Pacific and 2nd choice University of Cincinnati, because I really wanted to move to California but hubby didn't get transfered there yet though (military spouse) What speciality? (FNP, PMHNP, ACNP, AGNP, etc)? FNP What was your GPA, GRE, and how much/what type of experience did you have? BSN gpa 3.4, master of public health gpa 3.7. I have been a nurse for 4yrs mostly Med surg, orthopedics Have you heard back from any school(s) yet? Got accepted in all three. Simmons was 1st to response, then Azusa Pacific mid march and University of Cincinnati today. Have decided to go with University of Cincinnati due to lower cost $30.000 while simmons is almost $60.000 What semester are you looking to start? Fall 2014 Online or on campus? Hybrid- campus, so can take all classes online but have to do clincal in Cincinnati ( my hubby is stationed 1.5hrs away from Cincinnati so I will have to make it work:D )
