I like "rock star", "secret agent", "sniper", or "astronaut". Wait, those are all taken da****! Sorry dude but you're giving up on an entire career because it makes you feel... girlie? You can call a real man Shirley and put him in a pink tutu and he'll still be able to crank off 15 pullups, run up a mountain, hot wire a car, and punch a hole in a wall. Oh and start an IV on a baby, hold a dying person's hand, wipe up puss without gagging, and gently smile when old ladies flirt with him. Sorry I'm not trying to put you down, just point out that it's what you have inside that counts, and the label our job holds is just that.

I always wanted to be short, problem is I think the word short is wrong, so I refuse to be short. Thats the only thing keeping me from being short, though. I've also always wanted to be rich, but my name is not rich and I think it would be wrong to be rich, if your name wasn't rich at birth.

I hate when people call me a "male nurse", and I reply that I am a registered nurse. Some people have trouble getting their heads around it and I have to admit that before I got into health care I might have had a problem with it too, but I've found that the RN title is largely respected. Cops don't give me tickets, when I did jury duty they wanted to make me the foreman, er, foreperson and when I meet people they seem to appreciate that it's not your run of the mill job.

It is expected that the number of employed nurses will grow from 2.74 million in 2010 to 3.45 million in 2020, an increase of 712,000 or 26%. The projections further explain the need for 495,500 replacements in the nursing workforce bringing the total number of job opening for nurses due to growth and replacements to 1.2 million by 2020."

I say don't mess with a good thang (misspelled on purpose). Get rid of the word 'nurse' in the interest of gender neutrality and suddenly other guys will start flooding the marketplace. Supply and demand makes jobs attainable and drives salaries up. You can call me a nurse or the south end of a northbound mule for all I care. Just be sure the paycheck shows up on Thursday.

I am a registered nurse, not a male nurse, nurse, or murse.

Like what was previously stated, men being a minority in nursing tremendously assists us professionally. We stick out and get noticed more often so we tend to get promoted more often. Being a man in a sea of women is not the worst thing I can think of...
