When you want to help them at home...

Published

Good morning all!

I have this 3rd grader who has come in twice now asking for some lotion to put on her itchy flea bites. Y'all. This poor baby has soooooo many flea bites on her BLE. Most are scabbed over, but when she scratches them, they bleed and then scab over again etc. etc. She states they bombed their house this past weekend but that "it must be those stupid eggs that hatched!". I know her parents are doing all that they can to get rid of them, but DANG GINA! This is one of those situations where you wish you could intervene at home to help them out, but instead we clean up the bites, she puts some lotion on them (she swears that's all she needs and that it helps "a lot") and then she goes on her merry way...makes me sad to see her little legs so scabbed over...:(

Yeah, that's tough. Most of my students here are low SES and there are a few who I wish I could bathe and dress every day, put lotion on their eczema, etc. It's really tough.

Dang Gina literally made me LOL!

We have many kids that the staff and myself would love to take home. A sweet fifth grader and kinder sister; almost everyday are brought back because no parent was there to meet the bus for the kinder student. Brother diligently rides back to school with little sis to wait for ride. The look on his face kills me. He knows this is wrong (frequently late for school as well) and I can only blame mom who doesn't know the damage she is doing.

Ugh, this is awful! Poor babies! :(

I have 2 sisters who are very sweet, but they have lice and fleas in their hair and roaches crawling out their back packs. It is tough especially if you know that they have a loving mom who just does not seem to think cleanliness is a priority.

I know the feeling. Our school has a lot of low income families so I get a lot of students who are in ripped clothes or such. It hurts my heart when I have a bladder accident case and the student can't afford to bring extra clothes or such to prevent having to call mom to get them.
