When to take it?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I am a senior graduating in May :)

Right now I am trying to figure out the best time to take the NCLEX. My parents want to take me on a trip as a graduation present and are wanting to do it like the day after graduation for 5 days. I want to get my boards done ASAP so I can't decide whether to wait on the trip maybe till October or take boards after the trip. I know several people who have just taken the nclex without too much studying or anything and passed fine. Any advice? Will I even be able to get a test date that first week? Thanks much!

you should be fine. it took a month after graduation for me to even get the ATT to take boards

I was thinking that might be the case. I don't want to be thinking about the board exam while I'm on the beach though! Hmmm

Specializes in ICU.

I'm almost positive you won't be able to test that soon, take the trip! It took almost 2 weeks to get my ATT.

I graduated 12-14-12, got my ATT on 12-17-13. First appointment I could get to test was 1-2-13. I took a week long BC vacation from 12-16 to 12-22. You will be fine to test after vacation.

I graduated on Dec 18 and got ATT on Dec 21.

I took NCLEX on Dec 26. I saw my name on the board on Dec 27. (I did 100?s/day about a month.) And I had to travel a little farther to get the date I wanted.

I think my state BON is pretty fast processing license. it depends on them how soon you will get ATT.

Crazymind - where are you located. I graduated in December and still don't have my ATT. Congratulations!

Take your trip! When you come back, you start studying for the Nclex. After nursing school, you will be glad for that time off. When I finished LPN school, I left for Hawaii two days after graduation and didn't think about Nclex. After RN School, I vacationed a month after.

Specializes in Plastics, Bariatric, GI, Spine/Ortho.

Take your vacation. If you are concerned about the test and prep, just get a couple of the pocket study guides and flip through a few questions just before bed while away. I recieved my ATT within a week of graduation and didn't schedule immediately.
