  1. I would like to be more proactive. In my area it is difficult to get a job in L&D without experience as a nurse in other areas and many hospitals require it with your application. I also intend to apply at birthing centers, where I would much more prefer to work and I think it would be an important addition to my resume.
  2. What is the process for getting NRP certified? I have done preliminary research, but I want to hear from other nurses who have gone to classes and been officially certified. Is there an accreditation I should look for? I am a soon to be RN graduate who has plans to become a labor and postpartum doula and eventually a CNM. I would like to start getting certifications to make me more marketable to mother/baby units and birthing centers. If you have any advice about NRP and getting into the birth professional world that would be much appreciated as well! Thanks :)
  3. Thank you! That's awesome. I will have to check out that scholarship :)
  4. I am the president of my school's SNA and as an organization we are trying to think of a gift the class of 2013 can leave for future classes. I want to do something more unique than a scholarship and the college landscapes so it can't be a tree or bench or anything. I want it to be something truly useful for students and helpful for faculty... Any thoughts? Thanks!
  5. I was thinking that might be the case. I don't want to be thinking about the board exam while I'm on the beach though! Hmmm
  6. I am a senior graduating in May :) Right now I am trying to figure out the best time to take the NCLEX. My parents want to take me on a trip as a graduation present and are wanting to do it like the day after graduation for 5 days. I want to get my boards done ASAP so I can't decide whether to wait on the trip maybe till October or take boards after the trip. I know several people who have just taken the nclex without too much studying or anything and passed fine. Any advice? Will I even be able to get a test date that first week? Thanks much! Caitlin
  7. I am an ADN student at JCCC preparing to graduate and become licensed in May 2013. I am looking for some thoughts from students of various RN to BSN programs in the area to give myself and fellow students insight into where we might like to go... Open to online, in class, or a combination. Main concerns include cost, time required, clinical required, experience as a student, respect level in the community (how highly a degree from that program is considered.). Anything else you can think of is appreciated. KU Med UMKC Avila Mid Erican Nazerene Any others you may have attended or heard about :)
  8. I am a senior nursing student, graduating next May, and I'm not sure about one thing in nursing... What shoes do you all wear and love? Especially for low arches. My Dansko's are not really as comfortable as I had hoped and are also over mileage. I have a low arch and slightly wide feet and I think that's why Dansko's didn't so much work for me, I ended up with calf and knee pain at the end of 8 hrs let alone 12. I'm also looking for good places to try on the shoes if possible before buying online. I live in northeast Kansas and am willing to drive almost anywhere in the Kansas City KS or MO area. For example, I've heard great things about Alegria shoes but they have such an odd look I want to try them on before I spend that much. Any suggestions or ideas welcome! Thanks!
