Nursing is a profession that often involves long lonely night shifts in eerie hospital wards. It's a perfect breeding ground for ghost stories. These stories often involve sightings of apparitions, strange noises, and unexplained events that are said to have taken place in hospitals, hospices, and other healthcare settings. Some of these stories are believed to be based on true events, while others are purely fictional. Regardless, they continue to captivate and intrigue both nurses and non-nurses alike - providing a spooky glimpse into the world of healthcare after dark.
I know you have seen and heard freaky things. Share your nursing ghost stories...
Grace,I LOVE GhostHunters, too! I have it to record on the DVR every week. Just wanted to let you know that it was on last week (11-28-07).
I've thought of this thread especially when they've gone to visit old sanitoriums where the apparitions of nurses have been reported.
I haven't kept up with this thread like I should, but I *love* it, too! Wouldn't want it to turn into something it's not.
I think the GH season has ended, hasn't it? Have you seen the advertisements for "Paranormal State"? It premiers on December 10th on AETV. I'm hoping that will satisfy my GH craving until their new season starts.
I will be off orientation and starting night shift in a couple of weeks. Today, I was told by my DON & fellow staff members to not be alarmed of hearing noises or seeing things that might make me think I'm going crazy. They confirmed they have seen ghosts, esp on the 3rd & 4th floor of our hosp. (built in 1907). My DON stated the doorbell of our locked unit will ocassionally buzz throughout the night with nobody there, as well as the elevator bell. One nurse said she actually seen a short little man appear that was wearing a brimmed hat sitting on the window sill. Just as she got up to look closer, he was gone. I guess I might have some company on the night shift!
Ok here is something.... I keep clicking on 118 and it won't go. It just keeps bringing me back here! LOL!
The LTC facility I work at now used to be what they called the "state hospital", which was a facility for mental patients that families would drop their loved one off and never come back. This was during the time when the patients were given frontal lobe-ectomies to calm them, and they would basically walk around emotionless. Well there was a doctor there (his name was gordon) that used to perform these and other surgeries that (the rumor is) he often times performed drunk, and slept w/ many of his nurses.. just stuff like that. About 20 years ago it was rebuilt into a LTC facility, and all of the aides and older nurses that were there when this facility first opened, claim to have seen doc. gordon roaming the facility. Creeps me out.
