Nursing is a profession that often involves long lonely night shifts in eerie hospital wards. It's a perfect breeding ground for ghost stories. These stories often involve sightings of apparitions, strange noises, and unexplained events that are said to have taken place in hospitals, hospices, and other healthcare settings. Some of these stories are believed to be based on true events, while others are purely fictional. Regardless, they continue to captivate and intrigue both nurses and non-nurses alike - providing a spooky glimpse into the world of healthcare after dark.
I know you have seen and heard freaky things. Share your nursing ghost stories...
A coworker of mine who had a near death experience in her younger days could sometimes see people leaving their bodies. She even spoke to one that she found leaning over himself looking at his dead body and told him "Yes, that's you. You need to go to the light now." After she told me about that I used to drag her into every dying patient's room and say "OK, where is he?" :) Have heard ghost stories about other places I worked in, but never saw one myself.
Rustic,

It's 125 pages of great chills!!!!
SHUT UP!!! :) I used to work psych myself and it's amazing how many psych workers end up "going crazy" themselves.
I worked nights for over 26 years and we did have a room in which the undertakers had just removed a body, the call light continued to go off in that room several times till AM. We were spooked, the CNA made me come down that hallway with her to do AM rounds. My first job out of nursing school was in a state run OLD physch. hospital. We had a very nice male RN that worked on dayshift. The RN's could take their keys home with them. For the longest time the CNAs kept telling me about a white figure they saw at the end the VERY LONG hallway in the sunroom, they were getting more and more frightened nightly,I never saw it so I thought they were full of $&%#. Well it turned out to be the male RN who was having a nervous breakdown and "haunting" the wards at night. He used his keys to let himself in the building and used the back stairwell that everybody else was afraid to use, except me. Thank goodness I never ran into him, I may have wet myself!
We have this sink in the hallway in front of one of our nurse's stations that has a sensor on it, so that you can wash your hands without touching anything, of course. You put your hands in front of the sensor, and water comes out of the faucet.
Sometimes that faucet will run without anyone standing there using the sink, or anyone standing anywhere near the sink. Everyone who works there says that it is "Nurse Chase". Apparently there is a ghost of a nurse running around our hospital that everyone calls "Nurse Chase". There's an actual story behind her, but I can't remember what it is.
I found the most amazing and scary ghost video EVER! iam always looking for evidence of ghosts and paranormal well anyway i found this.happy halloween!
I have a laptop and about threw it across the room!! ARRRGGHHHH
I have two personal stories though non nursing.
The first I was about 16. My cousin had passed about 5 years before in a car accident (however it is speculated that he had died of an aneurysm and then crashed) Anyhow he and I were close, though he was 7 years older than I, as I am the only child of my Dad so he was like a big brother to me. Ever since the accident I had worried about the mental health of his sister and his family. The family was in turmoil and had fallen apart. So in order to help his sister (my aunt) out my dad bought the house and land to keep it out of foreclosure. Robbie's room was left untouched and I moved into his sister's room which is just down the hall. I believe that spirits are around and I would constantly talk to Robbie, and other family that I have been close to, but with no reply. Then one night when I was home alone, I went about my business and went to bed. That night I had a dream. I remember every part of it today as if I had the dream last night. I was in a school (but not the school we attended) at what I think is the schools old swimming pool. I was swimming and I saw Robbie. He joined me in the pool and we started talking about life. He told me that he was proud of me and that I was going to go do great things. I asked him if he was okay and he reassured me that he was with family and was very happy. He told me that he hears me when I talk to him and that yes he is watching over his sister and family and is very saddened by his father's actions. He then started to drown but wasn't scared about it. I kept screaming his name begging him not to leave and to stay and answer a few more questions. He said he had to go and that he loved me and his sister, and that he will always be watching over us. Then he was gone and a sense of calm washed over me. I woke up and walked down the hall to his room and the door was open and a picture had turned ever so slightly in the opposite direction. (you could see the dust print of the frame) Two years later about 2 miles from the house a friend and I were in a wreck that we should have died in but walked away with a few cuts and bruises. I know it was him that protected us.
The second was much more recent. My fiance and I bought a house in September. The night we moved in there were creaks and groans but nothing too odd. A couple of months later we rescued a kitten and for about a week he would stare down the hall and mew and seem very distraught he would run and then seem normal. He did this a few times a night. Then one night my fiance' was pulling a noc shift at work and I was home alone with the kitty. I went to bed (I hate going to sleep by myself anymore, or being alone in the dark at all) at about 1. As I was falling asleep I started to hear mumbles of about 3-4 men and women. As time went on the voices became clearer. For a while I could not move or speak. Then all of the sudden I tried one more time. I yelled (or so I think) out telling the voices "your dead go to God and leave me alone, I'll say it again YOUR DEAD GO TO GOD!!" the voices automatically stopped and the next thing I know its 0800 and Nate is coming in to the house. I still don't like sleeping alone, but the cat no longer looks down the hall and hollers.
no she didnt have a name for the strangers we had to act like nothing was wrong as to not scare her she may have a gift
Two things:
A lady in the er sitting waiting to be discharged grabs the siderails, looks dead up at the ceiling and says, "Honey here I come!" And then code blue.
Also, I had a guy die in room 214 and a short while after that the call light in 210 went off for no reason and would not turn off. CNA comes in that AM and says, "Weird, that light hasn't done that since the last time someone died in 214." I told her she needed to shut up quick, because that was way too spooky.

my story: i worked in a rural er where the nurses' station was out in the hallway along with the waiting area. just around the corner were the doors to the ambulance bay, and there was a monitor in front of the desk so we could see if anyone was out there wanting in. one night i happened to glance up at the monitor and saw a bent-over figure in black, a common sight in that area since a lot of old mexican women wore black and were hunched over. i went to the doors to let her in and there was no one there. i even went out and looked down the walk; i should have been able to see her and there was no one. another night i saw the same figure, this time standing in front of the doors as though she were waiting to be let in, but when i went to check there was no one there.
same hospital: babies have been heard crying in the nursery when there were no babies in there.
there is a thread here already about ghost stories, a long one. you should check that one out.
