Nursing is a profession that often involves long lonely night shifts in eerie hospital wards. It's a perfect breeding ground for ghost stories. These stories often involve sightings of apparitions, strange noises, and unexplained events that are said to have taken place in hospitals, hospices, and other healthcare settings. Some of these stories are believed to be based on true events, while others are purely fictional. Regardless, they continue to captivate and intrigue both nurses and non-nurses alike - providing a spooky glimpse into the world of healthcare after dark.

We had a patient that stayed with us a long time. He ended up going to a nursing home and 2 days later was back on our floor. He had fallen and hit his head and had intracranial bleeding. Non responsive, etc.

When he was with us before we use to always seat him at the nurses station so he could talk to people. He would tell all the females how "pirty" they were. He was so sweet and we all loved him.

Anyway, when he came back to us in the shape he was in he never woke up. I was sitting in the med room (which happened to be beside his room) and heard a voice say "You're so Pirty". I thought to myself "that can't be Mr.Smith" I went into his room and he had died.

Not a ghost story but interesting none the less.

Ever since my daughter was able to speak, she has had an uncanny way of knowing what I am thinking at the time.

A few examples:

I spent one night after the kids went to bed looking up types of dog breeds to see which would fit our household. I have not spoken about a dog to the kids because I do not want to get their hopes up and the idea just hit me that night. Well the next day she would not stop talking about getting a dog. Not a big deal but stuff like this happens all the time.

Another time I was thinking to myself if I had gotten the mail. My daughter was holding my hand at the time as we were walking. She stated to me out of nowhere, "I already got the mail for you mommy, remember".

Anytime I am thinking of some activity to do with the kids she always brings it up to me right before I was going to bring it up to her.

I can't think of any more examples but there are many.

Anybody have this connection with their child?

Yes, I do with my oldest daughter. It is a wonderful thing.

Bump. I love this thread. Spent a few days (and nights:sofahider) reading it. Love it.

Me, too! If anybody hasn't seen this, I bet people on this thread would love a movie called "The Kingdom" - not to be confused wtih the Stephen King movie. It was done by Lars von Trier, a Danish filmaker. It started out as a Danish mini-series. Its a spooky tale with outrageous characters that all takes place in a hospital in Denmark - with English subtitles - it's one of my favorite movies, and I watch it around Halloween. I bought it somewhere on the net, and I'm sure it's available. It's wonderfully wierd and spooky. If you love this thread, you'll just love it.

I love this thread as well. It's probably my favorite! I love to watch the show called "A Haunting" on discovery channel. Freaks the crap out of me.

Read "Many Lives, Many Masters" by Brian Weiss. It explains a lot of what many of you have described here. It's absolutely awesome!

As much as I like spooky stories I can not watch "A Haunting" on Discovery Channel. I get scared of the images and sounds they put out there. :lol2:

My mother-in-law, who was a few days from death per cancer, kept telling me that there was a small boy (4 or 5 years old) that would sleep at the foot of her bed at night. Only she saw this child. She asked if it could be her grandson, but her grandson not there. Perhaps this was her spirit guide that was going to take her to the next world.

Good story - when I was little, an elderly aunt died. My sister was playing in the basement playroom, and came up the stairs to tell my mother that this aunt was down in the playroom telling my sister she was going away.

this story sounds like an alfred hitchcock tale, doesn't it.

john bradford, a dublin university student, was on the side of the road hitchhiking on a very dark night and in the midst of a big storm.

the night was rolling on and no car went by . the storm was so strong he could hardly see a few feet ahead of him. suddenly, he saw a car slowly coming towards him and stopped. john, desperate for shelter and without thinking about it, got into the car and closed the door.. only to realise there was nobody behind the wheel and the engine wasn't on.

the car started moving slowly. john looked at the road ahead and saw a curve approaching. scared, he started to pray, begging for his life.

then, just before the car hit the curve, a hand appeared out of nowhere through the window and turned the wheel. john, paralysed with terror,

watched as the hand came through the window, but never touched or harmed him.

shortly thereafter john saw the lights of a pub appear down the road, so, gathering strength, he jumped out of the car and ran to it.

wet and out of breath, he rushed inside and started telling everybody about the horrible experience he had just had.

a silence enveloped the pub when everybody realised he was crying and....wasn't drunk.

suddenly, the door opened, and two other people walked in from the dark and stormy night. they, like john, were also soaked and out ofbreath.

looking around, and seeing john bradford sobbing at the bar, one said to the other...

'look paddy.....there's that idiot that got in the car while we were pushing it!!!!'

This is a great thread. I must share that i've been seeing ghosts since i was 4 years old. Haven't seen one since 1997 until i started working in the OR. I've heard from a few people that our OR is haunted, especially the old trauma room. Some have said they've seen a lady in a black dress walk down the hall. Some have said they smell fresh roses or lights, music turn on with no one around. My first experience was a weekend shift and i saw a black shadow, a quick flash at the corner of my eye walk by my room. Then when i was washing my hands the faucet next to me turned on by itself. It was weird. I sometimes get the feeling that someone or something is around but this is only on the weekends when it is dead and you're pretty much by yourself with a couple of people in other rooms. Many of these stories are very interesting and fascinating. I'm so glad there are so many of them to read! Thanks for letting me share.
