Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!
Yeah, I love the "designer" names I've seen: Porsche, Allante' (remember the Caddy by that name?), Mercedes, Lexus, Chanel, Nautica (not kidding)
But the one name that, hands down, took the cake was a little girl that came into the ER by the name of "Sexkissia".
sigh. :icon_roll
my name is Dawn my mom's name is Coral
Just had a 32 weeker in triage her name was Joyful Leigh (say it out loud to yourself) I got a kick out of it- she wasn't even born in December!
How about Merlexy. Mom didn't know if she was conceived in a Mercedes or a Lexus.
A little boy named Happy. Every time I hear that, that old song from "South Pacific" runs through my head.......
Wee bit off topic, but my brother-in-law apparently had a doll when he was a kid who he called "Corrosive".
I saw it on the news but it happened in my state. On the coast someone actually named their kid ESPN! Hope that kids likes football. :monkeydance:
I know a nurse specialist named Apple. She married a guy who has the last name "Pi" pronounced pie. You should see the looks we get from patients when we tell them they are getting referred to Apple Pi.
The worst one I can remember that I can verify is a boy who's mother had a difficult pregnancy. She was going to name him 'Rocky Road' because her pragnancy was such a rocky road, but the nurses gently talked her out of it when she asked them what they thought. They said it reminded them of the ice cream. She shortened it to "Rocky"
One recently was Oceania for a girl. of course there have been many wierd names that I can't remember.
I've heard of several that I can't verify -
Twina and Twinb (twin 'a' and twin 'b') by parents who thought the babies had already been named.
Nosmoking (no smoking) by an illiterate mother who copied a sign in her room.
Hemarcus and Shemarcus, but a dad of twins named Marcus.
You can't verify them because they (like the lemonjello and orangello and lady partss and Shitheads that have been mentioned countlessly in this thread) DO NOT EXIST.I've heard of several that I can't verify -

So much of this thread is very culturally insensitive and insulting. Seamus? What's weird about that? Very normal Irish/Celtic name. Deshawn? Common in black culture. Mercedes?! Are you serious? Do you guys not realize that Mercedes was a name before the automobile was even invented?
Every name sounds weird somewhere. I have patients who've never heard *my* name before (Kelly)--I'm sure some of them think it's a strange name. I have Asian patients who can't pronounce my name any more correctly than I can thiers.
Also consider this: The very common, usual name "Jessica" was invented by Shakespeare for his "Merchant of Venice" play (thought to be derived from the Hebrew Iscah =OR=less commonly held, as a way to make the name 'Jesse' sound more Italian). I'm sure in the 1500 and 1600s, and later even, it seemed like a VERY odd name.
Kelly

Shithead is an Indian name - I've seen a couple of Indian babies with this name in our NICU. I also went to high school with an Indian boy named Hardik.
