What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

:chuckle nursing school? I can see it now...Nurse Delicious...LOL

Kyriacos(keer ree ahhcus)

I will say it fit him since it's a greek name and he(I worked with him) was very obviously greek.

I kind of like it, even though not being greek I wouldn't use it for that reason and a couple others because #1- I don't think anyone would pronounce it correctly the first time they saw it(I did phone support for a major shipping company and he was a tech lead so we conversed over the phone so I knew his name before I saw it in print or I would have been sunk) and #2- it's darn near impossible to spell correctly. I only learned it because one of his buddies sat next to me and as we weren't allowed to read anything non-job related in between calls and he was next to my cube a whole lot I spent a lot of time memorizing how to spell his name, it was a fun challenge for me at the time being 19 and having nothing better to do in between calls. Very few people had any clue how to spell his name (including the supervisors), it wasn't uncommon for someone ask if they needed to document that they spoke with him "how the hell(or how the f***) do you spell Kyriacos' name?"

Tao(Dow)

Supposedly his parents spelled his named wrong(I heard that from a friend of mine), but I never asked him about it. He was another one I worked with but we were friendly and saw each other through mutual friends outside of work occasionally.

Thats all I can think of for now.

So, I was monitoring PICU the other day and I had a kid named Unique. I guess they decided to skip the whole "that name is so unique" comment and get right to the point! :chuckle
