What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

Harry Wang. I swear. i just thought Harry was funny and then the pediatrician started laughing and then i got it.

oh also...Liam...which is a fine name if your last name doesn't happen to be Bean!

I think the worst I have EVER EVER EVER heard for a name was Traylor Trashley. Dakota Blu Ball was pretty good to. My mom had a patient name her's female and pronounced it like tamale with an "f".

This guy I went to high schools name was Hang Ten. He was asian and dont think the parents knew what hang ten was in the US. Still, he was always teased.

my fiancee came home from work today and said i have a name for your weirdest name thread.....saw it on a patient script A'Miracle

17 years ago, EMS brought me a 40'ish female with a baby on her baby. She thought she had a "tumor" that was falling out after church....went in and laid down. When the pain became unbearable, she called her husband in, he flipped up her dress tail and yelled out, "Oh Lawd, it's A MIRACLE!"

Hence the name, A'Miracle........

Okay I have to jump in too. Had a kid initially named Kevin. Nice name for a little boy but then they got creative and when he reached 1000gms they decided to change it to "Kilo". Wonder what he's doing for a living. More recently I triaged a baby with the last name of "Gas". Yeah, you guessed it her parents named her "Fartun" pronounced far-toon. Of course they were clueless as they were fresh of the boat from Somalia but poor little Fartun Gas will have a hard road ahead of her in the US.

People usually comment on my name, but I've grown to love it. I got it origally from my cousin (first cousin, but she's over 25 years older than me) who wanted to name her daughter "Chancie", but my aunt and uncle threw a fit, until she decided to use "Adrienne" instead. When My mom got pregnant (my cousin and my mom were best friends growing up before she married my dad) she asked if she could use the name for me if it (ME) was a girl. Well she said "yes" and I was in fact a girl, so that's how I got my name.

Oh, and I know one guy who wanted to name his unborn daughter "Echo Odella" (his name wa Odell), but his wife Luckily got him to agree to "Serena Odella" instead! She only conceded to "Odella" because just 4 months into the pregancy he was diagnosed with pancreotic (sp?) cancer.

Oh, and my husband's father wanted to name him "Burl"! I'm soooo glad his mom was able to change that!!!

Have a Great Day!
