What's the weirdest baby name?

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

This is the Welsh spelling of David. St. David is the patron of Wales. What is the astronaut's last name. That might indicate Welsh ancestry.

I'd say "Honesty Deception" is probably in my top ten of weird names...but one of our ob docs had a pt in med school who likedthe term "Meconium" and wanted to name her son that....it took the young doc a few moments to gather the courage to explain the meaning of the word.....

I once heard of a mom who named her child Nosmoking.....said it was the last thing she saw before her c/s. I also had a teen mom who named her child Margarita......(sad). I learned from many years working with new parents how to keep a straight face.

Margarita IS a name. it's spanish for Margaret. Thought I would clear that up since the drink was named after the woman not the other way around.:)

Margarita is also the Spanish word for "Daisy" as in the flower. I actually think it's kind of a cute name for a little girl.

We recently had a patient who named her baby girl "Flicka." When the doctor said "WHAT?!?!?! You mean Flicka, like the horse?" She smiled and said, "Oh, did you see the movie too?" I love my job!!! It's never dull!!!!!!!

That's interesting and I didn't think of that. His last name is Williams and he was flying aboard the shuttle for the Canadian Space Agency. Just an interesting sidenote here: he's also specialized in trauma emergency medicine and had many years of experience in the ED.

Williams is the second most common surname in Wales. So, there are probably dozens of Dafydd Williamses running around those lush green hills.

Very cool that Astronaut Williams has a medical background. If I were on a shuttle crew, I'd love having someone with trauma training and experience on board.

I have found most mothers are quite sensible these days in naming their kids...not so trendy or silly. Although it's often the teenagers who give the most interesting names. I recently had a gal name her baby Heavenly Sky. And one lady let her daughter name the new baby Cinderella...

My mom just retired from the Fremont Union City school district office (in the SF Bay area), and last year they received a pair of transfers (two brothers) in from Oakland. Their names were

Orangejello (pronounced Oron-jelo) and Shithead (pronounced Shi-taid). I'm completely serious, the spellings and pronounciations are accurate.

Also, a few years ago she processsed another transfer in, named Nosmoking (pronounced, Nosmo-king). He said at the time he was born, his mother had just come to the US, didn't yet know the language, and named him for the first thing she saw as he was born...a no-smoking sign on the wall opposite her bed in the delivery room.
