I did a double take to see that there are actual ads promoting the Bush Agenda and selling pro-Bush novelty items. This is really quite inappropriate for a forum that is supposed to be unbiased and nonpartisan. MODERATORS??

The ads are generated by the topics of the thread. So if Bush is mentioned then perhaps you'll see a Bush link. The moderators don't have much to do with that.

I don't quite get how it works, but the thread topic does seem to be the controlling factor. I was over on the "monkey can do what nurses do" thread and there were ads for sock monkeys. :rotfl:

Don't worry - for a while ads for Australian sheepskins were following me around the board.

I don't know exactly how it works, but it is some sort of Internet thing where the webmasters don't have full control over the adds (well I guess they could but opt not to secondary to the fees the ads generate). Two people can be looking at the exact same site, but receive different ads. It is computer generated based on what you are viewing, so like a previous poster indicated, if someone mentions Bush in his/her posting, the system picks up on this, assumes that you have some interest in Bush, and generates a Bush ad. I think this is how it works.......anyone else know?
p.s. I will say this though....in all my years of working in health care and social service, I've always been amazed by the ignorance of many of my colleagues and clients when it comes to the positions of their candidates and the impact these positions have. Example, without mentioning particular candidates, there have been several times when I've seen a client express support for a particular candidate despite the fact that this candidate supported the elimination of a program that was directly benefitting client and the other candidate was advocating that the program be maintained. I've witnessed the same thing with colleagues who espouse particular views about a health policy but then vote AGAINST the candidate who shares those views! I can't understand people voting against their own self-interest and against their supposed beliefs. People can be so ignorant. If a colleage asks my opinion, I always give it. If it is a client/patient, I simply ask them questions like, "What is important to you?" "Where does candidate A stand on that issue.....and where does candidate B stand?" 9 times out of 10 they have no idea so I encourage them to get the answers.

Test the theory if in doubt. Start talking about John Kerry and see what comes up.

I've seen Kerry ads as well, it's all in the words.

Like Tweety said: Ads here are triggered by subject matter in a given thread. It's as simple as that. Allnurses.com is NOT endorsing or pushing any partisan agenda and never has. Hope this helps allay your concerns.
Yes, while allnurses.com is NOT pushing any particular agenda or candidate, it is also entirely appropriate for forum members to post info regarding health care policy issues and where particular candidates fall on these issues. For example, it is extremely important for nurses to fully understand the policy differences between candidates on issues such as Medicare/Medicaid reform, prescription drug issues (including benefits and importation from Canada), Nurse reinvestment act, labor law/overtime, and a host of other issues to numerous to list that impact the lives of nurses and their clients/patients.
Which is why we have both an Activism forum and a Current Events forum.
