Hey guys! I want to know what the one thing you can't live without in your clinical bag is? I am starting to make purchases and get things together and wanted some seasoned input.
Clipboard case that opens - to hold & hide my mound of paperwork (also holds my quick reference sheets), a watch with a second hand, penlight, black pens, stethoscope, 4x6 notecards, scissors (very handy for packaging on pills that won't open), a pouch to hold all the loose items, NSAID of choice, breath mints, padlock, lip balm
After catching my scrubs on beds and equipment I learned to carry an empty Altoids tin that contains a little sewing kit of pre-threaded needles I picked up as a gimme at a trade show and some safety pins along with a few blister wrapped Imodium, Benedryl, Naproxen, and Sudafed. Keep Carmex for chapped lips and to put up your nose when odors may create nausea. I keep it all stuffed inside a small zippered cosmetic bag with a couple of tampons, an extra set of bandage scissors, short penlight, pens, and a stubby Sharpie.

Multi-colored pen for taking report and making notes on my brain sheet. I chose one color (blue) for taking report, red for making check boxes and noting anything very, very important, black for making my own notes throughout the shift, and I underline or write anything in green that needs to be passed on to the next nurse.
