Whats your nursing student/school pet peev???

Published

hi all i just wanted to ask everyone what there biggest pet peeve is when it comes to your family or friends when discussing difficulties that you are having with school.

when i try to discuss things with my family they just say .... oh suck it up its not that hard :angryfire .... or come on now its just nursing its not that bad..... but my favorite is .... nursing is nursing isn't that why you wanted to go to school to learn so lean.:nono: i might add i really really hate this one

now when ever i have a problem non of my family members like to help me through the difficult times i just get these useless lines and its supposed to make everything better. i hate it even more because none of my family has ever gone through university or better yet most haven't even graduated from high school.

There is actually a whole thread on this topic in the Nursing Polls room...its been going for awhile.

One Instructor pet peeve: Instructors that brag, brag, brag on one student because she is so wonderful: especially when you told that student what to do because she asked ...of course that is when the instructor walks in and sees how wonderful SHE is.

One more: Instructors that say they "CARE" so much about me and call me by someone elses name.

Awww, what the heck,,,one more: Instructors who tell you a class starts at 9:00 and they start at 8:30 so that you feel late at 8:45.

My pet peeve would have to be having my other housemates not knowing how hard nursing is. One of them is in life science so she is constantly studying, which is good for her. But then when I complain about how hard my anatomy class or pharmacology class is, she starts going on on how hard her classes are. Or when I am super tired at the end of a clinical day and she wants to go. Um I am kinda tired seeing as I was up at 5 in the morning and working all day.

I also agree on the pet peeve of nursing instructors starting class early. I can be 10 minutes early for class but still be late.

My pet peeve is also how little other people understand what nursing school REALLY is about..I dont care if you went to college to get 3 degrees..still doesnt compare to the rigors of nursing school...well..because I am in nursing school, thats all I have time to write!!! LOL

Mine is the comments from DH - like this morning, when he didn't know I was in earshot, "This place is a pigsty." Oh well - not my priority right now! :trout:

My (not so nice) response would be, "Oh REALLY? Well, what's wrong with the two arms and two legs that YOU have?"

Okay, my biggest peeve was they didn't give academic credit for clinical practicum. Sure, you might get a 95 or a 75 but ultimately, it was just translated as "pass" or "fail." I always thought and still think that's the biggest bunch of BS since we're an applied science, you know?

They should do it to even the playing field, as well. Case in point, I've seen plenty of students who'd be wonderful nurses but were just crappy test takers, likewise, I've seen 4.0 students who probably couldn't interact with a voice automated phone system, let alone, a human being!

My family isn't greatly supportive, but that's O.K. I've wanted to go to nursing school for 10 years and they have not, so I don't expect them to feel the same about it as I do. Also, I don't expect much sympathy or support, because I quit a good job to go to school. If I mention that it is hard, they remind me that I could still be back at my old, comfortable job. If I say that I need time to study, they tell me my kids should come first and I shouldn't have got into this position in the first place.

My DH spending over $650+ for a stupid remote controlled boat, when I am trying to get by with my 200% interest rate student loan. I quit my great job to pursue a dream, to ensure a better future for our family. Thanks for all the "support" dear...gheesh!

LOL, PeckedDthByChickens, do you think maybe it's a syndrome? B/C I see it pretty frequently (my own life included), maybe they could name it something like "Spousal Sabotage."
