What's the funniest most unusual baby name?

Nurses Humor Nursing Q/A

As many of you know by now, Kim Kardashian had her baby. As if you couldn't miss all the annoying coverage over every single detail. They named that poor kid North West. What are some of the funniest/weirdest/most unusual baby names you have seen? Could be a patient or someone you know in your personal life. And if you are someone with one of those odd names did you just learn to live with it or would you change it.

Went to school with a Clayton Thor (last name). Awesome middle name!

When I was a peds nurse I saw a Neo (from Matrix), Sequoia (after the tree), and in my son's preschool class: Molly Popp (not funny, parents). And a college professor: James Jamison (again, not funny).

I have a relative who is dating someone named Prince and has a sister named Princess ... but that is because they are actual royal descendants. True story.

In the book Interns, one of the doctors includes a story about a patient who named her twins Winston and Salem. Since the book is non-fiction, I assume that's a true story and not urban legend, but who knows.

Weirdest name I've come across (and it's a doozy) is M'K'N'Z'Y. McKenzie. Why would you do that to your child? It wasn't a patient; I saw it on a birth announcement or Christmas card that was tacked up on a friend's fridge (was years ago, so I don't remember which). I also have a high school friend who named her son Dan'l. She is Czech and apparently that name and spelling have been used in her family for generations.

We were invited to a graduation party for one of my son's classmates. Her name is Whitney, but she has a sister named Lybia. Can you imagine? Ugh.

I definitely have to go with my own name on this one....

Corella.

It's actually a really unique combination of both of my grandmother's names; my maternal grandmother Cora and my paternal grandmother Ronella, my father put the the 2 together to come up with Corella and the rest is history...

My biggest issue through school was dealing with a name most kids thought sounded exactly like Cruella Deville, so needless to say i was made fun of a LOT throughout school because of my name, in 2nd-5th grade I actually made my mother register me for school as "Corey" (the nickname most of my family gave me) just so i wouldn't have to bare the brunt of the name calling. It didn't work however as most kids knew my name, so I just gave up. After getting through school however I found that I truly LOVE my name. It's unique, easy to point out and remember, noone else has it (that I've seen anyways, although a quick google search leads me to other people with my name, along with a species of bird and a town in italy) Plus, it just sounds pretty...I have been called many things though, such as; Toyota Corolla, Crayola, Gorilla, and the timeless classic of Cruella gets around alot (especially seeing that before I became an RN i've been a dog groomer for the past 8 years, which is quite ironic if you think about it.)

I love hearing unique names though, and whenever I have a pt. who feels bad about their name or goes by a nickname so as not to deal with it, i like to share my struggles with my uniqueness.

I have relatives with the names Winter, Whisper Misty, my twin sister changed her name Florence to Cheyenne Sue and I had a grandfather with the name, Wilbur Wright.

I had a male toddler patient named King. If you have married more than once, and you have married a man named Duze, and another man called Wiener, you should never hyphenate your last name.

Blanket Jackson....

I've got sooo many. I was a L&D nurse for 5yrs, then Peds for 10. There are many that have already made their way around, but here are some of our faves from my coworkers & me. (They actually started keeping a list taped on the wall in the records room!)

1) Lemonjelo & orangelo = lemon jello orange jello

2) Honnesity = which mom wanted pronounced honesty

3) Abcde= which mom wanted pronounced absiddie

4) Nemesis= Really mom? Did she know what that meant??

5) Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan= Siblings

6) Shitass & *******= Twins who were referred to social services before they were d/c'd, but mom claimed were "Ethnic" names pronounces Sh'toss & a'sholie. Honest to God- I'm not making that up.

7) Andrea & Andrea= Twins who mom said was pronounced An-draya & On-dreeya.

So many names, so little time.

*** I thought women could hyphenate their "maiden" names with their married names. I didn't know they would hyphenate two married names. That shouldn't be allowed.

Once knew a doctor Crapster who married Dr. Spitz (a dentist of course). We all assumed she would take the opportunity to dump Crapster, but no, she hyphenated it.

I understand where you're coming from cookiemomster, I do, but I swear on my life I really did literally take care of patients with those legal monikers. In 15yrs in L&D/Peds I'm not making them up. Honnesity's mom was extremely nasty that I pronounced it phonetically w/the emphasis on "esity" & she loudly & rudely told me it was Honesty-I thought that perhaps she knew what she wanted the baby to be named but didn't know how to spell it. Sadly 4yrs later I saw on the news that she had been killed while playing in front of her moms apartment w/her 2yr old sister & a 12yr old child trying to steal a car reversed & pinned her between the car & brick wall.

OK...I work with an RN (in her 40's) named Pebbles. Really. And when I was still at Ft. Hood we had a foreign wife who had a baby, saw some literature with the "name" she liked - "lady parts", rhymed with "Regina". We finally convinced her that would not be a good name for her daughter. Seriously. And I just remembered taking care of Bambi several times in the OR.
