6. Average 2 week gross pay

Thanks

I am guessing that the nurse that asked this question is taking a survey of income across the u.s.a. And with few exceptions we can all conclude that all nurses regardless of speciality ( except critical care nurses) are pretty much paid the same salary. So ladies everyone should find what suits them and stay there instead of job hopping for a couple of cents more. :lol2:

IV Sedation nurse in Oral Surgery

40 hours a week

Medical Assistant 12 LVN 4th year

This is interesting. I find some LVN's make the same money as LVN's in SF.

As for bad grammar. Some people have disabilities that aren't always visable, like bad spelling, (ME!) I can't believe there is no spell check on this thing is there?

I think that's why I went for my LVN instead of an RN. I know i'm intellegent but just have this phonic language disability.

It hurts to be made fun of.

I haven't seen any RNs from NY (specifically, the metropolitan area and Long Island region) responding...any chance one or two of your can reply to this post?

I am a new nurse in NJ 50,000 a year full time.

Why are people reacting so harshly to this post? She's curious about what her finanical situation will be once she has completed her education. Personally, I'm a single parent of two who also would love to know what type of pay I'll receive once I'm done with school. I'm currently a CNA (pay isn't great but the schedule is flexible for school) and I enjoy it. It's about more than money. You do have to love the job and helping people but please check in with reality. Due to the current economy and rising costs of living such as rent, mortgage, childcare, utliities, and groceries, most people can't afford to just pick a career that they love - you need a career that pays. Your finanical situation may afford you the ability to just be a nurse because you love it and the finanical compensation is not a determining factor. For me, versatile positions, flexible shifts, benefits and a long-term career attract me as well as the money does. Honestly I do want the most money I can get since I'll be spending more time at work then at home. If that's a crime, judge me guilty.

I am a new grad and will begin my new career next week. That being said, I find it disturbing you would post a survey regarding salaries. If you are studying nursing for the salary then you may want to rethink your decision. I certainly would not want you taking care of my family member if it is about the money. I chose to become a nurse because of my compassion for other people and my desire to make a difference. I have sat on the other side and know first hand the true value of a nurse. At the end of the day I will not be counting the money I earned, but recalling what I did, or what I could have done better. To be perfectly honest with you, I can not tell you off hand what my hourly rate will be. All I can say is that I will be part of a profession that I am honored to belong to. You see, I truly wanted to become a nurse for the sake of working in that capacity. There are plenty of other professions in which you can earn more and by all means will have less responsibility. In my opinion, if you are worried about the salary now as a student, nursing is not your calling.

I do understand that when choosing a field such as nursing you cannot be going into it with money being the only purpose for doing so.........with that said, I will be graduating in May of 2007, and come from a long line of nurses. I, too, was worried about how much I would make upon graduation because I have a family to support. I researched it well before I applied to nursing school. Now, was money my ONLY reason for going into nursing? Of course not. Was it a factor? Definately. Anyone who says they have gone into nursing with compassion for other people being their ONLY reason cannot possibly have a family to support, or at the least is not supporting it on their own. I do have compassion for other people, I love the fact that I chose a field that is based on that very fact.....but money always comes into play at some point. I can't believe that people would continue to do it these days if it didn't pay enough to pay your bills or feed your families. But that is just my opinion.

Hi have one comment to make. I really hate when nurses say that one should not go into nursing if it is about "the money". I think that many wonderful & smart people with good hearts who will not stand for less than they are worth could be drawn into nursing if the price was right. No wonder we can't get payed what we are worth with these attitudes! I have been a nurse for 10 years and I never expected that I would have to put other people before my family,Miss christmas, the kids foot ball games, cousins wedding!! Have my body turned upside down doing shift work, feel like I was not important when the management treated me and others like crap, Have Doctors think that nurses do nothing while watching us do it all. I know that I am a DAMN good nurse!!! Would I do it again had I known that the pay would not meet the duties? I think not. Does that make others a better nurses than me? more commited than me? I think not. I resent the fact that people confuse nurse with missionary. Those days are over. I do not think that all the money in the world could make a person with the wrong motives stay in nursing. Others are being payed for doing a hell of a lot less than we do. Money is not the root of all evil. Tell The girl what she wants to hear!!! GIVE UP THE FIGURES LADIES!!!! Let her make an informed decision.

after 10 years and a BA I make 28.00/H about 600 a week after taxes I live in canada. I work 36h/week day shifts. overtime about 3-6h a week.

Go get your money!!! Find the best state and nurse your butt off!!!Pay those bills and Nurses your butt off!!:nurse:

OHMYGARSH!!!!!

I've just blown about an hour reading all these posts thinking I was going to get a good idea of salary ranges. Much to my bored delight, I was entertained by the foolishness of some and the graciousness of others.

What I havent been able to understand is the argument of posters who state that it is poor manners to ask others what their salary is. Yes, this may be true if you are asking your neighbor, accountant, friend, etc.

But this is an online nursing forum that is soley for discussing different topics regarding the nursing profession. If you are curious about a nurse's salary, you dont ask her while standing in line at the grocery store! You come to websites like this one and post your question/survey! That is what the OP did, for Pete's sake!

If you are embarrassed or if you think we will figure out who you are, just answer anonymouse-ly! heehee---grammatically incorrect!!!:trout:

If it offends you, then you can go on to the next thread! And why were you looking at this thread in the first place??? Ah ha!! Caught you!!!;) You wanted to see the answers didnt you!?!?$!?!$

$$$ Would that be considered poor manners??!! $$$

I think that these types of surveys are completely valid for this type of website. It offers the chance to get a peek of what's going on around the country. I didnt find salary.com to be close to what salaries are in my area.

Btw, I'm still a RN student so my income is negative $5000 to negative $10,000 annually at this point.:o

So, Im glad I was able to get that off of my chest and add some spice to this uh, entertaining and sometimes informative thread.

Speaking of chests - It is definitely poor manners to discuss the size of them!!!!:lol2:

Peace

I love this site. Thanks to all of you who share your knowledge here.[/quote

Your reply is exactly what I wanted to say but couldn't find the words.

hi, I read your request, and for the person who is so intent on spelling and gammar I will try to be correct. from what I read, pay seems low in a lot of states. I work for a nursing agency, and average from 30 to more hours a week depending on what I want to work. I make an average of $23.00 an hour. I have been an LPN for over 20 years. I work in the southwest. Before the agency work I made approx $19.00 an hour. but I do understand that LPN stands for Low Paid Nurse in many places. Many places that I have worked at also expect you as an LPN to do an RN job for LPN pay. :angryfire You can say don't do this, but the patient suffers then. just my opinion.:uhoh3:

to the nurse with the 36 years in one place, kudos to you, that is good, considering where I live the facilities and hospitals change hands every couple of years and even months, and retirement from these places are a thing of the past. keep going strong.
