Just wondering what everyone does for employment while attending school? Personally I work security at a construction site, I get paid $10 an hour to sit in my car and study! Just wondering what everyone else does?

Todd

Specializes in Neuro Critical Care as PCT.

Hello,

I work as a patient care tech. making 9.91 an hr. I work 3, 12 hour shifts per week. Sometimes 4 if they need me. I have 40 days left and counting until I start nursing school. Once I receive my schedule for school I will need to figure what days I can still work. I've taken Nutrition and Logic so far to lighten my class load.

I do patient registration in an ER. I started the job when I was still working on my prerequisites. It's great because I do bedside registration with a portable computer and get to see a lot. That was particularly helpful for me since I hadn't had much experience in hospitals before nursing school. After first semester, a lot of students in my class got jobs as PCTs which is great experience with patient care....but, I would have taken a cut in pay if I decided to go that route! My boss is so great and has been very flexible with me, so I have stuck with my registrar job even though I got my LPN license after the 2nd semester of nursing school. I started out working 20 hours per week when I taking my prereqs, but once I got in the nursing program I cut back significantly because I have 4 kids. Can't beat a great boss is who flexible!

I say any job in healthcare OR any job where you can study on the job like Todd's is perfect for nursing school.
