For all of you that have graduated, tell me what was the worst or most difficult part of your Nursing school experience?

I have so much respect for nurses because I heard that nursing school is very hard.especially learning about medication dosage calculations.i.v. flow rates and stuff.gosh that stuff is what keeps me from wanting to see if I could actually do it.

Specializes in Med/Surg/PACU/Emerg/ICU.

Finals; I hate exams. Always have and always will. It's not that I don't know what to do but they scared the hell out of me. I would always take at least ten minutes to start then ease into it. I'am glad those days are over.:monkeydance:

Specializes in Acute rehab/geriatrics/cardiac rehab.

The worse part of nursing school. On the undergraduate level it was the first day of clinicals. I remember driving to my first day of clinicals and fighting the urge to turn around. I was fighting the fear of going on that hospital floor and meeting real people who were actual patients. Another hard thing....no time for anything else but studying..... On the graduate level, the hardest part is the amount of reading.....

Specializes in NICU, ER, OR.

getting up at 5 am for clinicals, when I never had to get up that early before . (not a morning person)

Also, being terrified of the real patients. i could babble off pathophys and all the other crap like nothing, got all A's but was so afraid to try to put in a stupid foley. Maybe it was self esteem issues, looking back.

from an incoming student to the program, I thank you all!

2 things; getting there! I live way south of Boston and had a long difficult commute to class and clinicals. Some days it was over 2 hours in bumper to bumper traffic and of course I would be chastised for being late. It was hard to swallow all of the insults, put-downs, etc that are inherent in so many nursing programs, especially in clinicals. But I held on and I am SO glad I did. Some day down the road when I am teaching newbies, I will remember all of the trauma of nsg school and try my best to alter the paradigm. Kindness can work better than intimidation almost always.

The worst part of nursing school for me was rotations I felt so afraid that I would do something wrong or that my teachers would ask my something that I did not know.

MATH that was the worst--out of school for 15 years--but managed to make 2nd in class--go for it if you want it then own it!!!!;)

By far, the absolute worst part of nursing school for me was writing all those CARE PLANS!!! I would take a test any day over doing care plans.:uhoh3:

I agree with you 100%, working on those things all night then going to clinical without sleep, ugh!

Specializes in None...YET!.

Very inspiring post! :) I'm proud of you!

Thanks to everyone who replied. I'm just now taking my prerequisities so I have a long way to go. Some responses made me laugh and some made me think "Oh no..what am I gettng myself into?" But I know one thing- I am ready for it all. I am excited to see what it's in store for me. Thanks again for offering some insight!
