I totally agree.

The other poster said no other white man is as well-qualified, because they don't have the voice or perspective of a black woman.

Yes.  I was disagreeing with that idea.  We don't need any voice or perspective, we need good judges.

I did say that because there is an obvious void of perspective on the highest court in the land.  No white man can bring the perspective of a black woman to the court.  It is necessary to advance a black woman now.

She's qualified, so I'm all for her nomination and the proceedings, which I hope are smooth and turmoil free. With everything else going on in the world, we need something that shows stability. As far as needing a perspective though, justice is blind, there is no room for prejudice brought by perspective. That said, I have high hopes for her, what an honor!

That's absolutely not true, IMV, particularly in this current time with the most recent appointments to the court.  We need the perspective and voice of reason, empathy, altruism and a black woman.

The most recent couple of appointments seemed rushed and not reflective of the best available to many of us.

I think that our history and current events prove that American justice is not blind.  We can change that.

Agree with most of the first paragraph in what we need in a Justice but not that it has to be a black woman.  But yes, it's about time to have a black women Supreme Court Justice.  We'll agree to disagree.  White people can have those qualities of reason, amp;athy, and altruism.

Agree with the last sentence.

This is not the time to pretend that we've enjoyed some elevated process for choosing supreme court justices that only considers the very best of the best...we all know that isn't true.

I said, and this is a direct quote "That being said, even in recent times we don't seem to have the best history of picking the best and the brightest.  Look at the last two the Senate put through."

So it makes no sense that you are lecturing me because I'm clearly not pretending we have an elevated process for electing justices.  It's a political process and I know this.  I was speaking in ideal qualifications and what should a justice should have and that shouldn't be based on their race in an ideal situation.

Still I understand the narrowing of the field by race because if we didn't we wouldn't necessarily break the stranglehold of white power.  I started out by saying I have mixed feelings about this because I wish it didn't have to be that way.

Here's an interesting article on how the Russians have been preparing for sanctions for quite a while.  Obviously they knew invading Ukraine wouldn't have repercussions.

Now that's the truest statement I've heard this morning. It's a sad verdict on our judicial system...pun fully intended

First, I'm not lecturing anyone. We're having an exchange of opinions and ideas...a discussion with disagreement.

Second, all of us who are concerned about the direction that conservative politics is pushing this country has reservations about the actions necessary to counter that march into right wing authoritarianism. Those reservations should meter the response to the threat, not render it useless. I wish it didn't have to be that way too but an account full of wishes doesn't pay the bills.

We don't live in an ideological perfect democracy and our fragile republic is in actual peril right this moment because republican leadership shares none of your concern or mixed feelings about their actions relative to the courts or the country at large.

Well, given what I said about the last two justices approved by the republican lead congress, what you said to me about pretending doesn't make sense.  Shrugs shoulders.

I think we agree more than disagree as usual.
