What are you studying before school starts?

With school about 12 days away, was just wondering what you folks are reading up on?

My school, West Penn Hospital, gave us this math (decimals, fractions and percentages) packet to study up on.. I keep watching math professors on youtube and bought a basic math book to refresh my memory.

What about you all?

We weren't actually given anything to study, but I have been brushing up on my A&P, Microbiology and some math (I'm terrible at math).

I just rec'vd my syllabus yesterday, and effective tonight I am going to work on my pediatric math calculations...I am very scared!! We begin school 9/2 and the first math exam must be taken by 9/17.

Wow I wish we got our syllabi now instead of waiting until next Thursday at Orientation, we cant even ask previous classes because the curriculum is new this year, they would have no clue...I would love to have that much a head start on my work load. I have my books (12of them )already but have no idea where to start!

Any ideas or suggestions???

I was lucky and got the syllabus from someone who took the class this past year, so I am able to see the basic schedule and reading assignments, writing assignments, etc. Now, I know that things change and assignments etc change, but not too much.

If I didn't have the syllabus, I'd probably review all my phisiology, especially CNS system, digestive system, and kidney/electrolytes, which were my weak areas when I took the class. I've been doing some medication math problems (about 15 minutes per day). But just in the last few days I've been reading the Kaplan NCLEX-PN prep book for test taking strategies, as I understand that the program is using this type of question almost exclusively in order to get the students totally used to this type of question, so that when they take HESI and NCLEX-PN and RN they will already be comfortable with this style of multiple choice question.

I'd suggest you check out the Kaplan nclex-pn book and read the first half on test taking. I'd imagine that more and more schools might be using this type of testing throughout school just for this purpose.

I plan on taking NCLEX-pn ASAP after my first year, for the purpose of re-stocking the bank account during the summer.

When we bought the syllabus (yes we actually had to pay $10.00 for it!) We got the theory objectives. There are 63 of them total and they are due throughout the semester. A big group of my classmates have formed a group which we are distributing them equally and then sharing them. I got an easier one ... however a very long and intricate one. ADL's and Hygiene. I have been working on it for the last few weeks on and off and I am writing now up to page 15! Will this one EVER END!! Ugh!!

At least I will not have to do all 63 of them!

So that is what I have been working on this summer to prepare.

study relaxation :) I tried to prepare before school started but it was a waste of time because it only gets you ahead a couple weeks or so and then you fall back into just trying to do the best you can. enjoy your break instead

Today I plan on studying the beach and my tan. ;)

I do have the class schedule and our first day of class we jump in with lecture so I'll try to get that done in the next week or so. I also need to work on med dosages because our first test is 2-3days into the semester.

I'm working on the first 12 chapters in the Calculate With Confidence book - it's all basic math but I need a refresher and I was told to work on them from fellow junior/senior-level nursing students. but other than that, nothing =)

We got our first two modules, so I am doing the reading from that and also working on my assigned questions. So, I have a few things to do...I'll feel better going in there prepared than waiting til the very end and not having time to do it!

I'm going to go over the math from last semester as well...

LadyJane Thanks for the advice:flowersfo...at least I have a jumping off point. we got a book in our boxed set called Test Success:Test taking Strategies for Beginning Students...maybe I will give that a looking over as well, I just checked the table of contents and it seems to be a pretty thorough compilation of information and advice ..with a huge chapter specifically devoted to the types of questions on the N-CLEX.
