I started level 2 and I am taking Gi/Gu right now. My professor said to practice a lot of Nclex questions. I was wondering what are some study tips to do well for this class? I also start clinicals next week. I have a hard time understanding things by just reading. I believe I am more of a visual learner. Can any nurses help me please?

I am in GIGU right now also. The best tip I can give is time consuming but it works! I make a chart of the diseases or disorders we are learning- the patho, the drugs, the diagnostics, and most importantly the nursing care. I learn while I am doing it and it's a very organized way to look back before the test.

:twocents:the time-tested resources for you visual learners (and anyone who wants to have a better understanding) are the anatomy coloring book and the physiology coloring book, both by wynn kapit.

these are not kiddie books, they are serious textbooks that use a different way to embed the concepts in your head. you will like them.

they look to be about twelve bucks each on amazon, but i am sure you can look around. do not get the other ones that have a similar name and/or are promulgated by for-profit schools like kaplan-- they are not the same and are not as good. i see there's one for free download, but i don't know if it's the kapit text. check to be sure. disclaimer: i have no financial interest in the books, their publisher, amazon, or anything else related, just a very satisfied former instructor with better-prepared students.:yeah:

I second the books recommended above. Also my classmates set up a web page, one who lived to search the 'net, found many valid visual resources on You Tube explaining various GI & GU conditions and procedures from the pathophysiology of hepatitis to a CBI post TURP procedure. The You Tube resources were sponsored by universities, medical device manufacturers (as in how to use their brand of t-tube, cosostomy kit, CBI kit...), medical schools, nursing programs.
