I plan to be a GN in about a week and am wondering where I might be able to work. Oregon does not allow GN's to work. I'll have to wait for Excelsior to go through my paperwork, wait to take the NCLEX and wait to get my RN cert. I'd really like to work sooner (because I really need the money).

Florida allows GNs to work....it's finding a position that could be an issue.
Have you checked your neighboring states? Just google "graduate nursing jobs - washington" or california, etc. You should be able to find something!
Well, I know that neither WA or CA accepts Excelsior grads, so that won't work for me. So far as I know NY uses GN's. I'll go anywhere to work. Nevada would be good.

Not IL. Sadly, they changed their policy last year.

Texas does, but I noticed most of the hospitals here in Houston want you to pass your boards before you start work.

New York allows GNs to work. I am orienting now as a GN and will work under the supervision of an RN until I pass my boards in March. :)
Do they pay the same for GN's as for RN's? Do they require you to sign some sort of contract stating that you will work for them as an RN if/when you pass your test or can you just work as a GN and go elsewhere when you get your RN?

Some places does in new jersey. They hire you as Nurse Tech, they don't pay you like what RN is getting but it is pretty good. and you get experience as well.

I live in Texas, more specifically the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This is a state that is very welcoming toward Excelsior graduates. In addition, GNs are readily hired in my area.

In w.v. you are given a temporary license that is good for ninety days. You can go ahead and go to work before you take the nclex, and if for some reason you arent successful in passing the nclex, most hospitals will allow you to stay on as a nursing assistant (for much less money of course) until you do pass.
