At the hospital I am working in, GNs are paid the same rate as an new RN without experience, and I receive the RN wage from the first day, including orientation. I applied for a full time position with the good faith understanding that I will stay after I pass my boards, but I did not sign a contract. They have a new grad incentive program that pays $7500 over 3 years with the first $2500 bonus after 6 months of employment. Additionally, I receive $550 compensation for all fees related to my licensure (testing fee, BON application fee, review for NCLEX, etc.) I did sign a statement that if I left before 6 months I would have to pay back the $550. I plan to stay at this position for at least 1 year, possbily 2.Do they pay the same for GN's as for RN's? Do they require you to sign some sort of contract stating that you will work for them as an RN if/when you pass your test or can you just work as a GN and go elsewhere when you get your RN?
In w.v. you are given a temporary license that is good for ninety days. You can go ahead and go to work before you take the nclex, and if for some reason you arent successful in passing the nclex, most hospitals will allow you to stay on as a nursing assistant (for much less money of course) until you do pass.

I plan to be a GN in about a week and am wondering where I might be able to work. Oregon does not allow GN's to work. I'll have to wait for Excelsior to go through my paperwork, wait to take the NCLEX and wait to get my RN cert. I'd really like to work sooner (because I really need the money).
