At our facility, the pts. with families bring in clothes and pj's. Some may think this is disgusting, but sometimes after a pt. dies the family doesn't want the clothes so we send them to laundry and hang them in the linen closet. Whenever a pt. needs anything(with the exception of undergarments---gross!)we go to the closet and pick it out. Usually the residents pick out their clothes and we mark their name in it so it goes straight to their personal closet. Pts. don't mind and I hate seeing those without any family, friends, etc. go around in a hospital gown when everybody else is dressed.
I would check with the DON, administrator, etc. before doing this. It's never been a problem with us, the pts., or the deceased's family members, but like I said some people find this disgusting.

I used to dress the rt. in their own nightgown or PJs if they had them, hospital gown if they didn't. If they could talk, i would ask if they would want pants. Or put on sweat pants if they complained of being cold at night.
The majority of male rts. wanted pants, most of the women wanted just the gown.

Marie.....we do the same at our facility. However, there is one pt. who likes wearing nothing (but keeps covered). There are those who, no matter what, kinda "lose" the gown a bit. (Think "Full Moon over....")

Our facility has PJ's and gowns. Most wear the PJ's. Then there are the ones who wear their own PJ's and those who prefer their sweats. One likes his boxers and T-shirt and one who likes to sleep in the raw. Upon making rounds I've shined the flashlight one too many times on the full moon. :chuckle

personal jammies, unless they request a hospital gown.

Personal jammies if they've got them, although many are incontinent and on second rounds they get changed into gowns.
