What you'd REALLY like to say....

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Ok, so I know I can't be the only one who dreams about just for ONCE saying what's really going through her mind! I love my job, and I do it for the love of my residents, and I always give 100% to make sure they are safe, happy, and cared for. However, I am also extremely sarcastic by nature - and sometimes, well lots of times, I think one thing - but of course say and act completely polite and professional!

Let's see what we all are really thinking in those times of complete stress and chaos we all know too well! I'll start....

To the A&Ax3 perfectly coherent pt who is mean and obnoxious and thinks that he is at the Ritz not a nursing home, and thinks every CNA is his personal assistant / slave::angryfire

DO NOT under any circumstances hit your call light for me to come and pick up your breakfast/lunch/dinner tray - the NANOsecond you finish eating!!!! REALLY! You KNOW that at some point during the 20 other times you call me in there, that I will pick it up on my way out!!!! This drives me absolutely up the wall. Same goes for your urinal (with all 5 cc's of output)!

Stop calling the poor confused residents filthy names. Just because you choose to sit in the hallway all day long doesn't make you the hall monitor! Just because they aimlessly walk or wheel around doesn't mean they are stupid. They are confused. Telling them to get the hell away from you and go back to where "they belong" is nasty and uncalled for. I sometimes secretly hope you will become exactly like them. Soon.

When you ask for an appointment at the barbershop at 8:50 am and they don't open until 9 am, don't hit your call button at 8:55 and ask if I got you a 9 am appointment! I know this may come as a shock to you - but you are not the center of the universe!! You will probably get scheduled sometime later that day, or - GASP - maybe even the next day!

To those wonderful family members we all love so much:

Just because you have an internet connection and access to WebMD, doesn't make you a medical professional. Why the Docs and DON's entertain your completely idiotic and unfounded requests - I will never know. Do you know how hard it is to keep residents properly hydrated? Yet you insist your loved one is over hydrated, and insist he only have one glass of water at every meal. AND you come in during meals and pull a bottle of sea salt out of your purse and dump handfuls onto his food. Hmmmm. OK! :banghead:

You haven't been to visit grandma in over a year. Grandma is completely contracted, hoyer lift, check and change, with aphasia. When you come and tell me that she told you she has to go to the bathroom and you want me to "take her to the restroom", I am not sure whether I want to giggle or slap you. :uhoh3:

...

Keep em coming! Just some healthy venting! Thanks a ton!

How much should the CNA be paid, in your opinion?

$10/hr seems reasonable.

A CNA should start off around $14-$15 an hour... Think about it for a second... All the hard work CNA's do every day with the demands from the nurses who where ONCE a CNA makes me sick.... I wont to say, get up of ur lazy A**, get off your cell phone, and do some work, don't just sit there in give orders while talking to your boyfriend, like you somebody important... nope your not....

To the DON.... really take a look at your nureses.... most of them sit back and have the aide do all the work or try to until you come walking down the hall, then they wont to get up and act like there working there butt off...

To the ADMIN.... Try giving CNA sign on bonuses.... without CNA's your hosp, ltc wouldn't last... The CNA's are the eyes and ears of the facility and the ones who get treated like shi*t the most. Try giving CNA's a little more respect...

STOP PASSING THE BUCK... As a NURSE, DOC, ETC... It's everyones job to provide care to pt not just CNA's... i'm so tired of hearing i have to get so and so there meds, and change so and so dressing, and paperwork, etc.. I have 15 pt that I have to do my work on to and paperwork, so you can get a pt some water, ice-cream, answer a call light, etc.... TEAM WORK.... where is it... stop giving me excuses because you are a NURSE...WHERE IS YOUR TIME MANAGEMENT... OR HOW ABOUT WORKING AS AN AIDE FOR A WEEK AND SEE HOW MUCH YOUR ATTITUDE WOULD CHANGE...

I wouldn't consider the job of a CNA to be terribly hard. Yes, there are trials and tribulations, but you knew what kind of job you were going into. I hear too many aides complain about their "nasty job" and how "miserable" they are. Well, find a new job. I'm sorry, but when an aide begins to make the same pay I will make as a new grad nurse, there's no incentive to spend 12 months in a nursing program when I can make the same money by attending a three-month training course.

Day after day I hear nurses complain about how "miserable" they are with their jobs maybe they should find a new one as well. Since you're someday going to be a new Grad nurse, if you don't mind me asking...how much do you think you should get paid?

I've heard on numerous occasions nurses complain about how they don't get paid enough. If nurses can't live off of $25 or more a hour how in God's name do you expect a CNA to live off of $8-$10? How much do you think you should get paid if you decided to work as an NA over the summer after completing a year of nursing school? Is $8-$10 a sufficient amount? Especially if you don't have any financial support (i.e federal govt funds or a working significant other.)

'Flipping burgers' as u so colorfully put it requires the flick of a wrist, while we must learn body mechanics or risk serious back (among other things) injuries. The schooling is short but there is schooling as well as certifications. 'Flipping burgers' requires viewing videos and word of mouth instruction.

:lol2:That is too funny and soooo true:lol2:

He just needs to get over himself. He's not even done with his "12-month LPN program :bowingpur " and he already thinks he's so much better than a CNA.

Not to bust on LPNs, of course, but this guy's attitude isn't doing him any favors.

I honestly don't know of anyone who sits in an NA class saying, "I can't wait to start working so that I can have 10 or more pts on my assignment." Some of us did not know what we weren't exposed to the medical field. But that doesn't mean we hate our job or despise it. The every day trials and tribulations that we endure may cause us to dislike our job sometimes but its called a bad day...we all have them! Even LPN's! If a NA's job isn't all that hard...why are we needed?

As far as flipping burgers are concerned...When I graduated with a Bachelor's degree my first job was at McDonald's making $5.25 a hour. I don't think anyone should be paid that little to endure the stress I as well as my fellow coworkers endured on a day to day basis! Unfortunately for some...they have a family they have to provide for and sometimes, you have to do what you have to do even if you are educated, and decided to "make something of yourself" Sometimes things don't happen the way you planned!

ZanatuBelmont, are you going to feel comfortable with a NA's salary if you are unable to find a job once you get your PN license?

Seriously....you broke your ankle, not your arm! I really think you can lift your straw to your mouth :icon_roll

While you're just standing there talking and laughing next to that call light, I'm trying to pass out your paperwork....I guess I have to answer call lights too, thanks for nothing.

Quit following around the nurses and watching them do various procedures and questioning them and then asking me for help because you're behind :banghead: You are not at your clinicals.

Really....you need your urinal with 10cc in it emptied (cause you're afraid you're going to spill it on yourself ) right now?

You're honestly calling me back into the room to set up this new admit's meal tray because according to you, you "don't know how?????" You mean to tell me that you never learned how to do that in nursing school? Here's a tip: take the covers off everything and throw them in the trash.... now you're done. Easy!

I also had to adjust the overbed table and pull the siderails up because again, this nurse supposedly "didn't know how" to do those things. I was like whaaaaaaat?

That's because to many nurses sit back and give orders and forget how to do basic skills. To many nurses think becuase they are one, they don't have to go the extra mile... Lazy nurses = poor pt care and over worked, stressed out aides

LOL!! :lol::hhmth: IT IS ABUSE!

Hey Crystal, I wasn't gonna post this but since you were so forthcoming.........

Yesterday on my assignment, I had two obese pts in the same room. They were assigned as completes so I put one on the bedpan and went to feed another pt in a seperate room his breakfast. Next thing I know, I hear my RN calling me. Long story short, she tried to get her off the bedpan and didn't suceed so she needed assistance.

I rush through the feeding to go to her aid and decide to go ahead and do complete care on her. Needless to say I needed alot of assistance when it came to turning her. As I finished up with her, her roomate asks, 'Am I next'?

Mind you she had asked me earlier that morning as I was doing vitals if I was gonna wash her.

Anyway I told her a lil later. I went in to do accuchecks and she again inquired if I was gonna wash her. I told her after my break and reflected on why she was so eager. So after my break I go in to complete her care and she eagerly tells me that I would have no problems out of her, if I wanted her to turn she'll do it. It made me question why she was complete care if she obviously was so nimble, also the audacity to imply that caring for her roomate was trouble. And to say it loudly so her roomate could here? I was starting to get a lil sore at her but commenced to do my job without prejudice.

So everyone know's how to do a bed bath and it wasn't anything out of the norm except for excess skin needing to be lifted. I mean nothing that I don't do with all of my complete pts. So I get down between her legs and she promptly throws them open which suprised me because I assumed that she would at least be slowed down due to the weight but oh no.....she threw them things open with gutso. I started washing there and this.......this.......thing said, 'Oh yeah, like that':eek::eek: I stopped and looked at her, she must have realized cause she tried to clean it up with, 'I feel fresh, you know?' I quickly finished her care and avoided her room like an air borne precaution room.:sofahider

I mean, it's bad enough when they feel that because they're obese, it gives them a reason to be helpless, but to eagerly seek out someone to wash you and respond in an inappropiate way while receiving that wash is just f*cking disgusting! :barf01:

I just wanted to smack her silly :trout:. No words, just 'smack' and walk out with the cloth still between her thighs!

Anyway thanks for the courage Crystal cause I was a lil to embarrased to post this. I do feel abused as well. So not cool.

WOW!!!! I wish I new how to make faces from my phone...But u left me with my mouth open open!! I am glad I am not alone on this. Idk what I would have done!!! But u handle it GREAT.

To the witchy co workers: Just because you have been in the facility for 14+ years does not mean that you no longer have to be a team player, ignoring me when I need your assistance in x2 assit, only hurts the pt cause I will go find someone else. If you think your so high and mighty and don't need to be bothered with the newbie, go back to school and become an RN, otherwise buck it up and learn how to be a team player..

To the pt that MUST be the center of attention: My kids play that ****. I know it good and well and I will ignore your petty concerns while I am with your roomate in the middle of an asthma attack. I am sure you heard the story about the little boy that cried wolf..

To the family members of the combative: Seriously, your kidding right.. "I am sorry that my mother scratched/bit/pulled your hair/ smacked you..ect.. but she is tired when she is on meds" .. then really you come here and take the abuse because apparently you couldn't handle it, hence you sent her here.. so give me and the poor old women a break and let her get her meds.

To the pt that refuses to eat because they think you will spend more time with them.. seriously.. your not the only feed on this assignment.. do not refuse the meal and then notice that I am walking away and say.. "excuse me, I am hungry".. seriously, you got hungry as I took away the tray but the 20 minutes of bribing, beggin and yapping with you you weren't.. gezz ..
