I was reading this forum and noticed that every school has different number of pre-reqs to nursing program. For example, in my college you can not apply without:
2. ENG 101
3. Math (intermediate algebra)
4. CSA (computers)
5. Chemistry
Also, psychology, microbiology, and sociology are strongly advised to be taken prir to NP. GPA -no less then 2.8 (however, nursing advisor said that in reallity it must be at least 3.4;)).
And TEAS with at least 75%.
What about your school?
1. ENG 100 Writing across the Curriculum *
2. ENG 101 Reading across the curriculum *
3. MAT 023 Intro to Algebra Application skills I *
4. MAT 024 Intro to Algebra Application skills II *
5. FDS 100 Freshman Development Seminar
6. PSY 100 Intro to Psychology
7. SSC 100 An Intro to the Social Sciences
8. BIO 151-152 Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II
9. NUR 100 Medical Terminology
10. NUR 104 Drug Dosage Calculation
11. BCLS Certification (CPR)
12. CLE Computer Literacy Exam
*you may or may not have to take these depending on sat scores or placement test scores. i didn't have to take them.
You have to have a 2.0 gpa and an 90% A- in NUR 104.
I'm doing 5-10 right now. I am planning to take 12 in April, A&PII in the summer, and 11 the day before fall classes start.
Jess--May I ask where you are going to nursing school? I'm also in Missouri and I am attending Columbia College.
Lutheran School of Nursing http://www.nursingschoollmc.com/ :)
Thanks for replying! It looks like a great program.
As I stated before...I attend Columbia College http://www.ccis.edu
I am taking classes at night and hope to finish in 2010. I am married with 4 children and work full-time. It's a long road...but very exciting :nuke:
Well at the school that I am waiting on a letter from, they require 4 science pre-reqs (which is mainly what they look at) Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2, Microbiology, and Chemistry. Then there's the general stuff like College Comp., Philosophy (9 credits total, or 3 classes of philosophy---I've taken philosophy, logic, and now bio-medical ethics).., college algebra, statistics, 1 economics course (I took macroeconomics).., general psych., human growth and development, a state required course (of which I took US Gov't).., nutrition, .... that's all I can think of at the moment, but I'm sure I left something out!
The school I've applied for admits people based on a point system relevant to your science GPA, plus your cumulative GPA.
I just hope I can get in!!! :)

bio 161 human physiology
psy 228 human development

For El Centro ADN Program:
Pre-Reqs needed before you can apply:

PSYC 2314- Dev. Psychology
SPCH 1311- Intro to Speech

Almost done with all of them!!!!
We are required to have the following classes completed before we can apply to the program:
English 101
College level Algebra
Psych, lifespan
Chemistry
4 Biology classes, A&P, Cellular, etc.
Sociology or Anthropology
Speech, interpersonal communication
They want us finished with all of those classes so we can focus in on the core nursing classes without the distraction of the other classes.
The list sure did look long when I started, but now I only have the biology classes left and it is seeming a bit more doable!
