I was reading this forum and noticed that every school has different number of pre-reqs to nursing program. For example, in my college you can not apply without:
2. ENG 101
3. Math (intermediate algebra)
4. CSA (computers)
5. Chemistry
Also, psychology, microbiology, and sociology are strongly advised to be taken prir to NP. GPA -no less then 2.8 (however, nursing advisor said that in reallity it must be at least 3.4;)).
And TEAS with at least 75%.
What about your school?
This is for the ADN program at my school.
Pre-reqs to apply:
Writing I
College Algebra
General Psychology
A & P I
Computer Literacy
Additional classes to graduate, in addition to the actual nursing classes:
Writing II
Developmental Psychology
A & P II
Oral Communications
Medical Microbiology
Heritage/Humanities
At this point, I'm either taking, or have already taken everything except Medical Micro. I'm still waiting to hear whether I got in or not. I should know sometime this month.
If accepted, I'll have to get in my CNA training this summer before classes start.
At my university, we're required to have all of the core/pre-req's completed before enrolling into the nursing program. Our program is tough and they want the student to have the opportunity to concentrate on the nursing courses without having to worry about other classes. Makes sense to me.
