What policy do you have for ebola patients at your hospital?

Published

I would like you guys to share some of the policy put in place by your hospital if a suspected ebola patient shows up?

There are probably a lot of people who might share this info, but they may not be lurking in the "healthcare politics" forum.

We were told that we would admit/treat ebola pts at our smallish midwest rural hospital, only transferring out if we were unable to provide a high enough level of care, ie acute dialysis. Re PPE, same old same old iso garb + boot covers, mask (type not specified). Sigh....

That's like asking the police to show up for a gunfight without Kevlar.

Sign in ER lobby asking persons with a fever to put on a mask. Anyone with a fever questioned about travel over the last month. Isolate in negative pressure room if high index of suspicion for EBV. Training for hazmat suits and respirators next week. Notify CDC. Transfer to tertiary care center. We will not admit EBV patients. My hospital does not have the capability for the care and level of isolation required.

The priority is to protect staff and patients. Protocol is in the works and we are updated frequently.

I appreciate what my employer has done so far.

They've not told us anything so far other than "We have a plan".
