What about pharmacology?? For those who have taken the NCLEX...

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

This is the part I hate the most. Too many drugs to remember. Those that I have talked to said that they had hardly any pharm on their test. Doesn't help any still have to study it. What pharm content have most others seen. This is what some have told me:

Insulin - drawing it up, peak times

Dig - almost everyone told me they had a dig question

Herbs - don't like this subject, hope those are part of the 15, but everyone has told me they got atleast one of these.

Lith - thereputic range

Questions on chemo - I am not sure if NCLEX puts that with pharm

Lasic

And those are about it. Anymore that anyone has???

Thanks

Sorry but there are about 100 drugs that you should be familiar with, as well as the herbal medications. Some exams will have no med questions, and others will have quite a few. But these are things that you should know just to begin your job. No one is going to be able to tell you what you are going to have on your exam.

HI,I got a morphine question and a theophylline question,I had such a hard time studying meds,I just went by my knowledge I had in my head,it's too much to memorize everything with the meds

I feel so defeated on the topic of meds. there are just so many and so much to remember.

Would you happen to know where I could find a list of the 100 meds?

Send me your e-mail by pm, do not post it here and I will send you a list.

You should be preparing for the NCLEX like it is the beginning of your career, not like it is the last exam that you will take. This is only the beginning of the learning curve that you will develop. If you are going to work in a hospital type environment, medication administration can be one of the most important parts of your job. It is imperative that you know your drugs. There are about 100 that every nurse should be familiar with, the rest you will learn that pertain to your patients and type of nursing that you practice.

And most of the meds that are given to geriatric patients can also be given to babies that way 1 kg. So there is a reason that you are taught about a wide variety of medications.

If you approach learning meds this way, not that you are learning them for an exam, you will be much more successful.

I purchased the Kpalan NCLEX Exam Med Flashcards Flip-o-Matic

small enough to carry around, has 280 drugs and perforated corners you clip when you think (!) you know the drug.

Also, I open a Word doc. as I study Saunders and type the drug and info given, after awhile there are some overlaps, which is good! Also, when it is all typed neatly it is easlier to review

Hope that helps also.
